Idea Gaia DR2 database

Folks,


I discovered that Gaia DR2 archives are now available to public. I downloaded a copy of Gaia Sky package and tried it. Very interesting! It immediately displays Milky Way cloud from particle database! That allows travel through interstellar space like Stargate, Star Trek and Star Wars ships. Gaia Sky, Celestia and Space Engine are already doing that but Celestia and Space Engine are still using old HIP database.



Does anyone plan to implement that into Orbiter project?

With the current technology we have now, its not possible for our PCs to process that many stars in, for instance, Space Engine. wait at least 15 years. Read Moore's Law

Also, Orbiter is a single star-system simulator. But this single star-system it simulates great.
