I have installed the Smallville 2.0 addon which requires you to list many new generic base textures in the Base.cfg. When I load Orbiter, I can see them all loading and it takes quite a bit to get through them. My question is, will this affect my framerate/performance, even when not using the base that requires these textures?
To explain, I run two Orbiter " universes in my install. I created an EarthR.cfg which points to a base folder with only realworld bases: Canaveral, Kourou, Baikonur, and so forth. My default Earth.cfg points to fictional, future bases for my DGIV scenarios, such as Overton, Wideawake, and Smallville.
I use the same base.cfg for both situations. So, effectively, I'm loading all of these smallville textures for the " realworld " scenarios, and I'm not even going to use them. Am I taking a RAM hit for this, or are they still only really loaded when a base requires them? Would it be advisable to replace the modified base.cfg with the default base.cfg (which excludes the extra textures) when running the realworld scenarios? Or is there really a difference? Thanks.
