This is the non-fictional Gliese 581 system.

Instalation
- Unzip into your main orbiter directory
- Then if you are using orbiter 2010 unzip the "Gliese 581 2010 config" into your main orbiter directory too

Features
- Custom orulex terrain for all terrestrial bodies
- UMmu breathable base
- Gliese 581 d is breathable (you can take off your spacesuit)
- 3 fictional moons around Gliese 581 d
- OGLA compatible

Updates
- New cloud texture fo Gliese 581 c
- New surface texture for Gliese 581 e
- More accurat orbital paramiters for all the Gliese 581 planets
- New UMmu Breathable bases
- Now compatible with orbiter 2010 and OGLA
- Minor change of the 3D star texture (orbiter 2006p1)
- More realistic atmosphere for Gliese 581 d

Ive got a problem with Glise 581 D, If i step out of my Delta Glider IV the MMU's Immidiatly die. Any way to fix it?

Are you sure that you are using this addon and not the original by T.Neo?

There is no way to fix it that i know of. Pause it when u eva on Gliese 581 d and look at how high your are off the ground. Plus on Gliese 581 d (at least in my version) the gravity is about twice as stong as on Earth. Causing you to accelerat downward twice as fast, killing you.:) This will happen with any high gravity planet. But i have a temporary solution for that. Pause it when you eva and then use scenario editor to put you on the ground.

The smiley face after that statement disturbed me a bit. :P

If anyone would like to make scenario's, orulex hightmaps or surface bases for this system. Feel free to do so.:) Just don't redestribute any of the planet/star configs or textures from this add-on.

Your add-on really shines when used with the new relativistic warp MFD... The high gravity of the existing planets really makes life interesting...

After playing around with this system, I remark that the closeness of the various orbits, high gravity of the planets and short orbital periods make them ideal to learn how to do complex gravity assists...

However, I think we need a convention to shorten the name of the various bodies, as typing Gliese 581 d III is sometimes too long for some MFDs to display the important part (d III). How about renaming the planets Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, Epsilon and dropping the Gliese 581 part?

Because those are not the real names.

Let's call Earth Booglebezab, shall we?

Actually renaming the bodies in the Gliese 581 system to Alpha, Beta, etc would still be their real names just not with the star name stated for every system bodies. If a vessel travelled 20 light-years to go to this solar system I think the crews would very well know they are in the Gliese 581 system and not state it every time. I'm not saying we are to invent names, just shorten them by dropping or abreviating the Gliese 581 part so all Mfds can display the relavant parts properly.

No it will not. Gliese 581 d is the closest planet from the star, for example. Gliese 581 b or "beta" as you propose, is the second. Lowercase "a" never appears in exoplanet names around main sequence stars, b is always given to the first planet in terms of distance or discovery.

I get your point about MFDs displaying it though.

Granted, there is no Alpha in an exoplanetary system (my mistake), but delta is not the closest in the Gliese 581 system, the actual order from the star is: e, b, c, d, with the letters attributed in discovery order.

Uh... yes. Got a bit confused with Gliese 876. Either way, they're still not the real names. :shifty:

I confused the names of the planets around Gliese 876 with those around 581.

You confused day with month in the addon's release date.

Hello, i recently posted a thread in "Meets & Greets" and i hope it's allowed to post another post this quickly. But i'm having a problem with this addon. I have a clean version of orbiter and i've downloaded everything that's required for the addon to work. I'm using vista, and when i launch the scenario, any of the scenarios, the gliese 581 system seems to be empty, and when i click on "Camera" while i'm in a scenario, orbiter crashes. I would like to know if it's vista that's causing it or something else.
EDIT : I've found what was causing the problem. It's Orbiter Sound 3.5, yet it tells me that i require to download it for it to work. Now that i've found the problem, I need assistance fixing this problem. Oh and, i'm using Orbiter 2010.
EDIT AGAIN : All of sudden, everything works fine! I'm not sure if orbiter is supposed to do this, but i'm getting confused!
EDIT EDIT EDIT : I figured it out! To have the system working, i need to play a random scenario of our solar system first! It makes sense now.

O crap i know whats causing this. The file below should fix it. You should be able to play it without doing a sol scenario first. The files on OH will be updated when this becomes compatible with orbiter Galaxy.:)
