Question Google Earth Copyright

We arent discussing how to pirate software but If it is legal or not to use google. Discussing legalities isn't against the law. But anyways I would like to take it a step further . Is this able to be used in orbiter. Even if we need to get "permission" this would be cool. Imagine the following link in orbiter goto florida then to KSC you will see what I mean make sure to pan to ground level [ame="http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&tab=wl"]Google Maps[/ame]
not sure if this will tell you that you need the google earth plugin or not but you can get it here:http://code.google.com/apis/earth/
I guess what I'm trying to say here is using this example as a graphic's client kinda like Art's orulex

Yes, technically.
With the old Orulex came the World Studio program, that did almost that:
oru-080401-12.jpg

It allowed downloading of tiles from NASA WorlWind serves (similar to and pre-dating Google Earth, but now largely defunct), and either using them directly in Orbiter as Orulex surface textures and heightmaps or converting them to surface tiles like the default ones around KSC.

Adapting it to Google data sources would have been trivial if it survived, and making downloading automated during flight is a mere technicality in a graphics client.

So, nothing impossible, but not going to just happen.

O.o so adapting orulex to use google earth IS possible? Did I understand this correctly? That would be awsome. Well at least we know its legal to use the surface tiles. Now whether or not having it stream to orulex clients is probrably a little more complicated legally speaking. I am only assuming of course.

Couldn't we just ask Google or something? Sure, it would be quite complicated, but at least it would be more useful than trying to interpret a 10-line licence.

Whenever I come to this thread I get a
"This website wants to run the following add-on: GEPlugin from Google(unverified publisher). If you trust the website and the add-on and want to allow it to run, click here..."

I haven't clicked yet, should I?

from the same link about 3 post down or so:
"The good news is that if you fly over the area again TP will use cached data and there will not be as many interupts. Always providing of course that you have selected to use the cache during install.

I have found that if I access GE during busy periods then the captcha's come thick and fast. For your first pass over an area it is better to do this in an off peak hour.

Bern"
So this tells me initially it will pause on you but once cached it won't bug you no more..that is if there is no way around it. I would be willing to put up with a little inconvienece if the scenery was in orbiter,no problem

Technically, yes (if you can stand the "quality" :) ). However, i would have preferred some open sources, like worldwind servers were.

The issues might arise from what Hielor pointed - Google banning.

I had a clash with it before - when i tried to get the crashed M6 forum threads out of the Google's caches with my crawler - Google kept giving me temporary bans and captchas.

Legally, i see no problems - such a plugin would be akin to a web browser by function, and we can use the data from the browser, therefore...
But i come from reality-oriented culture.

GEPlugin is Google Earth plug-in for your browser. This message is most likely connected to this post, which shows for me United States on Google Maps by default, and loads the Google Earth plug-in only after I click on "Earth" button, but it could be loading that plug-in for you just when the page has been loaded, and that's why you have that warning message.

But under the condition to search for url in the code of the browser for each page/view "visited" ? I've begin to try some months ago to connect those html/javascript coded url with the real names of the images in the cache, or in a downloaded page for the reason that it's not so easy , considering a certain randomization of the names of the images itself ( jpg ), to merge them starting only from their names, wich are someting like 2527.jpg; 3684.jpg; 1273.jpg and so on... for images wich sometimes are ( voisines ) neighbours ( side by side ).

On the subject of the legality of using GE surftiles, I think the problem is akin to taking a screenshot of GE and uploading it to a website. I just searched for GE screenshots on Google images and got millions of results. By clicking "save image as" I can easily download any of them therefore the images uploaded are there for download by anyone. GE surftiles are on OH for download. How is that different?

Yes, you can use it like that because it is online, as long as you don't get a massive tile acess from a single ip address or browser client. If you to, you will be banned from the service. The people that use FlightSim have discussed all this as mentioned on other posts, using a tool called Tileproxy.

The best solution is to provide the tool unconfigured and the it's up to each user to setup what service to download from...

Actually, the best approach for Orbiter would be to use GoogleEarth API as graphic engine. If someone finds a way to output realtime surface coordinates from Orbiter to webpage running javascript I can program the rest :) ! It would be something like http://www.ge-flightsimulator.com/ visualy (and that's a nice flight sim:thumbup: )

Now if the earth looked like this in orbiter? Grand canyon: http://www.ge-flightsimulator.com/g...9772.934881801231&heading=-0.6375862243804448 or this at KSC: http://www.ge-flightsimulator.com/g...429.65159749293155&heading=55.546315645279996
And going a little further using google sketch-up you could put your house or work or anything into the game. Lol I wonder if there is a google mars....well I'll be...there is such a thing..this just keeps getting better all the time http://earth.google.com/mars/
