I only knew of it because of the connection to the causes of WW I. We certainly weren't taught about it at school.
It didn't survive the turmoil after 1918, I thought the dynasty had gone the way of the Romanovs and Wilhem II(can't see his family name, was he a Schleswig-Holstein?)

Except those two went different "ways" as well - the Romanovs were wiped out, while there are several direct descendants of the German monarchy still alive.

True, I think the Last Kaiser got off lightly, exiled to Belgium I think? Ironic in a way as Belgium's neutrality was one of the key points of WWI.
