I have been a fan of space exploration ever since I was 3 years old. The first conscious space flight I remember was Apollo 14. Even as a kid I saw the last 4 lunar missions with interest, and cried when I heard that Apollo 17 would be the last.........

I have an old computer that barely handles this program (I am unemployed and in school so whatever $$ I get goes there). My machine frequently errors due to hardware failures - especially while running Orbiter. This means that I rarely finish a voyage, even from Earth to orbit.

No matter, Orbiter is a fun simulation. When I free up some money, I will be definitely getting another machine to run this.

Nice to meet all of you....

I've also been unemployed in the past and I recall how frustrating it was to see awesome games being released and not having the $$$ to buy them nor the rig to run them. I found comfort in DOSbox back then, though. I never get tired of Master of Orion or UFO: Enemy Unknown ;)

Hope the situation gets better soon, and glad you're enjoying Orbiter. Nice to meet you too, Geirunni.

I use DOSBox myself. I have played Project: Space Station and Starflight I & II for many years.....

Anyways, I finally completed a manual surface-to-orbit flight with the Delta Glider without my machine crashing. Maybe next time, I can try to rendezvous with the ISS......

Married with kid myself, so I understand how money disappears...
As far as running Orbiter on an older machine, There are still older variations of Orbiter that can be downloaded, I've got Orbiter '05 on an older machine (circa 2000 or so) that seems to work fine. Just a thought... Not near as pretty as '10 with high res surface tiles and all, but hey...

Welcome to the forums!

Hope you have luck in getting a better machine someday. Definitely know how that feels. Like PhantomCruiser, I also am married & have a child. Barely see my money before it's gone.

:welcome: to Orbiter-Forum!

The "I need a better" computer club is one that has 98% of all PC users. The remaining 2% belong to the "I just upgraded my hardware" club, or the "I upgraded 18 months ago and it's still good, don't need to go there yet..." club.

There's usually ways around it, but really there always comes a hard line where you absolutely can't squeeze anything more out of it and you have to stump up the cash to get anywhere.

Oh, my machine can run 2010 fine.....if the CPU and RAM weren't failing.

It could be my motherboard that's causing them to error, but I believe that, after 8 years of excess dust and being banged around a U-Haul trailer took its toll on it.

I am sure I will get a better machine in a few months. I just have to free up some $$......

Life sounds tough man!
If you want to finish a mission, you might find this Autosave addon helpfull: http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=4690

Thanks!! This should help a lot!

Well, my worries are over about my machine: it is now dead.

It now fails to even power up. I think it went through total shutdown.

I was getting multiple failures from standard drivers and I couldn´t run the machine for more than an hour or so anyway without a hard crash, so this is sad, but not unexpected.

Anyways, the machines at my local ITT Tech institute take to Orbiter 2010 well. The fact that the simulator is totally portable is a big plus when dealing with closed machines. My flying days are far from suspended. I will find a way to sail on........

I have like 4 computers. In all reality if I could, I would send you one. ;)
At least you know people are supporting you. Hope your situation gets better.
