Good morning,

I played Orbiter as a child around the year 2000. I have gotten into another game about orbiting which features strapping little green men to horrifyingly over-sized explosive ordinance. I like the idea of Orbiter and I have fond memories of smashing my Delta Glider into Jupiter as a child after hours of struggling just to get to Jupiter.

I downloaded Orbiter 2015 today because I want to play the cutting edge version. Do any of the addons, like the sound addons, work for 2015 yet? (Also, wow are those texture files big)

Anywho, I'm off to go do some tutorials and learn how to get into space using a little bit more than just guts and animal instinct. Wish me luck!

Some do. Check my signature to get at least part of addons working. I'm sure many others will be updated after the Beta gets released.

The main new feature in this beta is added support for loading planetary tiles from a compressed archive. This was the last component I wanted to implement before a release.
But as it's later said, it's not the time to remove the upacked textures yet, as the packed format might still change.

Welcome Maltman.

If you're interested in a structured approach to learning Orbiter, you might look at Go Play In Space, the classic introduction to Orbiter. It's a light-hearted introduction in graded tutorials, and has links to more advanced tutorials and videos.

It hasn't been updated for the latest version yet, but at the introductory level, it should still be very useful.

Thanks Ya'll!

I installed the sound addon. I like it a lot, especially the MP3s and that you can add your own. That default track is slamming and causes me to spontaneously hit F1 frequently.

I'll check out those addons for beta.

So far I really like the elevated terrain in the beta version, and the cities look great. I don't know if I can go back to Orbiter2010.

However, today while going through "Smack!" with the Go Play in Space tutorials, I decided to reenter the atmosphere and land in the Atlantic ocean. I hit the time compression to speed things along and all of the sudden I was constantly accelerating away from Earth until I was on an escape trajectory.

I think it was some kind of bug or something.

I think I need to be a little more gentle with the time compression.

You are not ment to use high time acceleration while in a planets atmosphere, if you are in a stable orbit around a planet it is usually fine. There are options in the lauchpad to adjust some of those parameters. You can use lower than 10x such as 5x, 3x and that usually works ok while in the atmosphere.
