Hi all I am Joe AKA cleandog. I am from Arkansas, USA.

My wife and I are vacationing in Florida for 6 weeks. We attended the Atlas 5 launch last night watching from Port Canaveral which is about 14 miles south and found it quit exciting and interesting, wish we had been closer where we could have seen and heard more. Maybe next time.

Is there a better vantage point that plan old civilians can view a launch?

I have a question what happens to the Centaur and the two piece payload fairing after it deploys the TDRS-K Satellite?

Thanks and it's good to meet you all.

Joe

Welcome to the forum!

If I remember right, the nasa.gov site has a page that tells you some of the best locations for watching a launch. But I've no idea where it is on the site specifically.

Hi Joe. Were you here: 28.4190 -80.6279 ?? That's the usual civilian viewing location. Cars park all round that bed on either side, and watch from the waterside.

You can get closer from the Kennedy Visitors Center, but you need to pay to enter. (Or get the annual pass, which means you can get in after they scrub it a couple of times :) ).
