Looking up from the bottom of a huge ravine, with lava flows, waterfalls, and mobs galore.
I'm standing beside a lava pool just out of view. Every once in a while, a mob jumps down from ledges beside me.
I can't imagine where it ends, and I hope no one accidentally digs from the top... And chances are that I'm not even at the real bottom.

So, the ravine turned out to be 30-something blocks high at this spot.
Lava and water side-by-side in harmony:

And I also found out that above this ravine is an ocean.

Wouldn't really say that they're side-by-side in harmony, given that the water is turning the lava to obsidian

I checked out the commune and village today. Very cool! One of these days I'll generate a map so I can find these places more easily in the future! Also, lol at the LBJ memorials.

Out of curiosity, does anything "communal" occur in the commune or is that just a name?

As for a map, still thinking about what the best way to deliver it to people is. The interactive version it's spitting out ends up being hundreds of megs. I'll probably just take screenshots of interesting locations and post them. Real life has been getting in the way so I haven't had time to look into it much yet.

Well, we have communal chests, but we also have a locked door, so make up your own mind...

If you can find the spawn point (e.g. with a compass), you can find everything.
I think the commune might be getting less visits than it used to, but I do send over excess supplies myself and take some food back with me.

I have been doing the same.

Regarding the memorials, is the LBJ Memorial Bridge no longer named such? Or did the sign just not get replaced after a creeper attack?

When building Minecart tunnels, people, please, please, *please* remember that a poorly lit tunnel is worse than no tunnel at all.

I did say it was only mostly mob proof. I know there are some lighting issues and they are fixed when discovered. I hope you have repaired the damage....

Oh, what section (Distance) of track was that. There is a new bit which is not fully tested. Also remember that some parts are still open to the elements. I have seen mobs "walk" into the tunnels.

No, this was solidly in-tunnel, and I was coming from the other end of the line. There was no way he could have gotten there except by spawning.

That's what I've generally been doing (it's shorter, for one), and it's how I got up to the village on that trip. I had noticed the new station at the commune, so I decided to take a cart back.

Ahh, That is the new part, I only covered it last night and have not had a chance to ensure the lighting is right. I will do this when I add the distance markers to the section as well.

I think there were some areas further back that were rather dim, but I flew by them without incident.

It should be fine on 3G. I'm using 3G with similar speed and I've got full signal bar.

Ive set up a one way portal from my pyramid to the commune portal, once I've set up the nether side portal it should reduce travel time for those of us out in the desert.
