Thanks for the advise but i dont think a light logo would stick out.
Are these coordinates correct for Diego Garcia? When i put them in Google earth as a place marker nothing appears
7.3133 lon72.4111 lat
Just search "Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean Territory" in google earth, that should find it.

The google earth images have been done over 2 clearly separate passes by the sat. One side of the island is in cloud, the other is crystal clear. Unfortunately, the airfield is on the cloudy side, so they would require some fairly heavy editing, or of course another source for them.

ps. prob a bit late now, but my slogan suggestion would have been "reaching the unreachable", or somesuch thing.

On Google earth you can se The date back so the cloud problem is ok. How should i take the screen shot for a surface tile of the island?

use Base Maker

Well technically im not sure you are supposed to, I've had mixed messages in the past about non-commercial use of google earth.

But anyway, I just used various screen grabs when I did it, and cut them together carefully. But for AU, the island is a single mesh, so it uses a single texture. The current WIN uses surface tiles, which is probably what you want, and is a little more complicated, as you need to scale the textures accordingly.

I suggest you dig out some tutorials on the process for the details.

As Loru says, base maker can do some/most of this for you, once you have the textures.

AFAIK latest version of base maker imported textures from landsat but I may be wrong.

You have to check in the add-on thread

I tried importing from base maker but always get a white tile with the words "sorry...." The rest of the sentence goes of the tile. Maby i got my longitude and latitude wrong? Could some one confirm that 7.4111 longitude 72.3133 latitude is correct?

wiki says:
7° 18′ 48″ S, 72° 24′ 40″ E
-7.313333, 72.411111

So make sure you've got that "-" in there. Although you may find landsat doesn't have the island in its database...?

Should you end up needing another source and doing it the hard way, these Nokia Maps are pretty clean and even:

Terms of use says: "Use the Service only for your personal, non-commercial purposes"... So think you'll get away with it ;)

I was wondering how can i add a sort of billboard with my logo on it?

I think there was a generic billboard mesh at the hangar?

Yup... [ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=5098"]Generic Billboard[/ame]

Is there a way i can make my billboard light up at night like landing pads do?

Yes there is, you need to adjust the surface material properties of the mesh.

The billboard mesh is made of 2 objects, the frame and the sign itself, each has its own material. So you can adjust the material properties for the sign part to make it 'glow' in the dark.

There are 4 lines for each material. You will need to look in the appropriate documentation for what each line represents and fiddle with the numbers to get the visual effect you want. I can remember it all off the top of my head and am having a lazy Sunday, so you will have to look it up. ;)

Thanks. Do you know where i can get the documentation?

3dmodel.pdf on OrbiterSDK/Doc folder

Thanks
