Funny that I didn't yet notice it, but by strange occurrences and I suspect black magic, I am already online since this noon, despite my new connection officially starting to exist on 4th January...

Well, this is my username and my password that I use for the connection, so I better just give my provider a call. Maybe I should use the new VOIP phone system for a test.

So, enjoy the last hours of peace that this forum will have. I am back. :hailprobe:

I guess I'm confused as to what you mean.

The thread tags!

Welcome back Urwumpe!

I guess I'm confused as to what you mean.

well, officially, my new internet connection to my new apartment will be enabled on 4th January 2012. According to the Telekom technician who gave me a call this week that he can do the switching that day by remote maintenance and don't need access to the switch box.

I just already unpacked all technical gear and installed it, including entering the password and user name for the ADSL connection, so this part of the setup is also done, so I can store the boxes in my basement and have more room here.

Didn't notice it for a while, but since todays noon (CET), I am online already. It is confusing. But it works.

German Telekom being faster than they promise... almost unbelievable!
Better don't tell them or they will immediately disconnect you again :P

Luckily, the Telekom only owns the cables, my provider is a "small" local one.

And since I am practically customer for 15 years of them, and responsible for a dozen more customers who had me as their "genetically appointed CTO", I think we can find a better solution as a disconnect for some days.

Welcome back! It was strange to not have you contributing to the forum's political discussions.

As if I am the "last registered democrat" (tm) here (Simpsons citation).

Welcome back !! We missed you .

Welcome back! It felt weird without your posts.

Welcome back! Agreed, it has been very strange without you around!

So, that's why business slowed down in the staff forum lately!

KIDDING!! :) Welcome back mate!

Welcome back Urwumpe, now we need our shelters :hide: :P

But why ADSL, and not fiberglass? that works faster.

Fiberglass? Fiberglass? This is Germany! *kick down the well*

Germany is maybe one of the most important countries in computer history - but the infrastructure is a living fossil. Only few places that already support fiberglass (to home, the part from DSLAM to provider is very likely already fiberglass), and the government fixes the problem of poor broadband coverage by lowing the standards - German Broadband is now from 1 MBit/s upwards.

Here, you are paying insane prices for something as primitive as VDSL already, which is still based on copper, but at least 50 Mbit/s fast - until you beat the 100 GB/month limit.

The EU is already preparing to sue Germany for contract violations because of their "Lex Telekom" in that context, but the EU justice works rather slowly in such cases.
