Question =< I Want toCreate an Addon Though I am Unsure Where to Begin... >=

I want to create my own addon of a mars landing with an Ares rocket. The thing is, I have no idea what is involved with this endeavor. If it helps, I have 3ds Max so I can create meshes. I would really appreciate any help as I am new to all of this and would like to embrace the idea of the orbiter sim and contribute my own addon.
