Internet IE users reportedly get angry about being ranked the stupidest of all browser users i

I've never had issues running Firefox in Windows 7, nor have I had any stability issues whatsoever.
Seems like every time I tried using Firefox, it crashed on me. It offered no other advantages over IE, so what's the point?

The only thing that I see as a major point for Chrome over FF is that the tabs run as separate processes - so if one tab hangs your browser with particularly slow javascript, the other chrome tabs will be unaffected, but all tabs in FF grind to a halt.
IE also runs tabs in a separate process.

Wrong. I don't know why, but IE loads pages much, much slower than Chrome (or Firefox/Opera/Safari, for that matter). It's true that I have IE8 however (I'm on XP).
XP is more than a decade old. Time to upgrade :)

Take your browser for a test drive to see how performant it really is: http://ie.microsoft.com/testdrive/
Compare IE9 to whatever other browser you want :)

My I.Q. is above 170 and I use I.E. as a backup browser.

Thats' odd, I've never had problems with Firefox on Windows 7.
There are many advantages actually like AdBlock Plus and NoScript, thanks to the former I haven't seen an ad on websites in years.

Somehow I doubt your IQ is above 170, because the highest ever was 185...

No it was above 250.

Apparently we shall meet in the middle:
The IQ calculation of 228 was listed in Guinness Book of World Records, listed in the short biographies in her books, and is the one she gives in interviews.

Note that a very high IQ is relatively easy to get as a child, given the nature of the calculation.

Still getting better overall performance with chrome. (some HTML 5 graphics are marginally faster) But startup time and page rendering of IE is too low. (went unresponsive just starting it.)

Never had a problem with firefox on win7. I haven't liked the newer versions of firefox much, though, hence mainly moving over to chrome.

Real world performance for me makes me lean towards chrome, so I use chrome. Smart choice for me, regardless of what Microsoft markets.

And these IQ tests don't test a variety of variables. For example what if you are wonderful with biology but are below average in Algebra? You'll get a sucky score even if you excell in untested areas.

Who are you kidding? Why would I go from something that runs Orbiter perfectly well, to something that I'll have to tweak, to make Orbiter run as well?
My orbiter performance on win7 is better than xp, without tweaking. And my computer isn't even that great.

:hesaid:

I reinstalled XP primarily because I can play Orbiter at 1920x1200 resolution with all hi-res textures, 6 external MFDs open, including Map MFD and I still get at least 30 FPS. With the same configuration in Win7 (using Vista boost) I'm lucky to see 4 FPS. :shifty:

Back on topic, I'm not surprised by this report about IE users having a lower IQ. The only reason is because it's the standard on all PC's, so the majority of the people who merely use the internet for email and light browsing aren't usually as tech savy as those people in the group who look for other browsers. Mind you I said the majority. The non-technical masses far out number the technical, so you pretty much lost out from numbers alone if you're still using IE on purpose.

Because IE9 works fantastically on Win7, far better than the other browsers. Hardware accelerated rendering? Yes please. Stability and not constantly crashing like Firefox? I'll take that, too.

Built in mouse gestures? No? I guess I'll be sticking with Opera then...

Seriously, mouse gestures give a degree of ease in navigation that makes them pretty much a killer feature for me, even on Windows where I will acknowledge that I find Opera a bit clunky compared to the Linux version.

Oh, and let's not forget that Firefox has decided to crank out a new version every three months for the next two years or something...you know that they're high quality releases when they spend all of three months on them.

Version numbers mean absolutely nothing. You should know that. Of course, *they* should too. There is no standard set of features for the 6.0 version of a browser. As long as they don't try to get more than three months worth of features into their next version, it doesn't matter if they call it 5.1 or 6.0.

I've never had issues running Firefox in Windows 7, nor have I had any stability issues whatsoever.

Here's a question for both you and Hielor: Are you using Win7 32- or 64-bit?

64-bit, don't see any reason not to use it.

Edit:

I didn't have to do anything to get Orbiter running.

IE has no purpose other than allowing you to download a different browser.

This is a lot like saying Skoda make really bad cars. In the 1980s and 1990s this was true, but they're a lot better these days.

IE used to be bad, particularly in the pre-tab days of IE6 and earlier. But these days it's actually a pretty good browser. The only people who should be really bothered about which browser they use are web developers, who have an awful time trying to write web pages that work equally well on all browsers, and yes, usually IE is the one that is furthest away from the web standards, but it is getting there!

Page load times may be an issue for some people, but for the majority these days, internet connections are fast enough so that the difference between, say, Firefox and IE is minimal.

I use Firefox, btw. But I use IE7 at work at the moment (they're a bit slow to upgrade!) and it does the job perfectly well. Except when I'm trying to access Google+...

I use IE but honestly I couldn't care less what browser I use as long as it gets the job done fairly smoothly.

The thing is, there are other browsers that do it better, faster and safer. If you think IE does it smoothly... heavens.

When I tried Firefox it lagged and then crashed twice. IE at least works.

I'm not fan of Firefox and rare use it,but you probably run on bad version, lot's of people use it,if is that bad they probably stop use it.
I'm fan of Opera, lately and Google Chrome, run on Opera before Firefox and it was love on 1st sight.
I start use Opera long time ago when there is latest version if IE was IE6.
It was mind blow...you do not need to open new IE window for new page...simply clicking on scroll button on link and new tab is open...wow...
Maybe Firefox have that to at beginning but I find Opera 1st.
I don't remember that any maleware, trojan or any similar harmful item hooked on Opera ever, which is not case with early version of IE who give me a headache.
But choice and what to use for browser don't see why would have anything with IQ.
I think someone mention people who use internet most of the day probably going to try new thing and reading about other browser than IE,they try and like it.
