Last week I got Ron Howards and David Singtons new movie in the mailbox. 'In The Shadow Of The Moon' I got it from amazon.co.uk. It contains interview material and a nice collection of documentary footage and TV clips from the 60's and early 70's. It reminds me of the book Moondust.

anyway, I recomend it to any fan of the pioneer era. Allthough you will not find any news in it ofcourse. It has all been said before, but this format is pleasing to the eye and the astronauts are funny guys!

I especialy liked Michael Collins! What a cool guy. Armstrong unfortunately has not changed his policy and is not in the film.

It's a very good movie, Ron Howard has really out done himself this time, the funny part is when Buzz admitted he did a piss on the ladder.
Very good footage.
BTW, this movie actually been out for a while, it might be different for Sweedish cinamas i dont know.

It only came out in Australia about a month ago, a very good movie with some great footage I hadn't seen before. Michael Collins was much more entertaining than I had expected, definitely worth the time and money.

I bought it last week too. Very good film.

In fact, I have yet to see the DVD extras, and since there's nowt on telly, I might as well watch 'em now!

Well these kind of documentary are EXTREMELY rare ( read: never appears ) in swedish cinema. Unless there are a film festival or something. I have never seen spaceporn like this other than in IMAX theatres. And i think the DVD was released not too long ago...

And I also thought Buzz was rather fun. Much more easy going than the impression I got when reading about him.

Fantastic film. I received the DVD a month ago as a birthday gift.

Highly recommended is the soundtrack. I bought that too and is now a part of my Orbiter music.

It is really an awesome film. BTW, Ron Howard mostly provided his name recognition for the "Ron Howard presents" part - he wasn't really involved in planning, directing, or filming (maybe executive producer). But his name was probably the factor that allowed it to get into at least SOME theaters last fall. I had to drive an hour to see it in the only theater showing it in the whole greater Boston area, a small suburban theater that normally runs art and foreign films. Which sort of shows you where space history falls in the priorities of most Americans!

It's not because it's space history that it didn't get wide circulation, it's because it's a documentary. Documentaries do not make lots of money, and cinema is a business, not a charity. People go to the movies to be entertained for a couple of hours, not to be lectured.

I bought In the Shadow of the Moon on DVD a couple of weeks ago. It was definitely worth the money. Not only was the 2 hour movie very interesting, but the extra 60 minutes of bonus interviews with the astronauts was very interesting as well. You did not get to hear about Apollo 9 and 10 in the film.

I like it, but I'll be honest, I was hoping for more footage of the lunar surface than I saw. When the film appeared at the Sundance festival it was spoken of on NPR radio, which is how I first heard of it, and they said there was lots of newly released footage, so I guess I got my hopes up.

Still, I recommend it to any space fan. The Apollo crews aren't geting any younger, and some of them have already passed on, so drink in whatever you can get from those who first traveled to the Moon.

For those like me who are too cheap to buy it, it's available on YouTube as a bootleg copy broken into 10 parts. Not as nice as a DVD, but the price is right.

And if you're too cheap to afford the bandwidth to watch it on YouTube, for those of you in the UK, it's just starting on Channel 4 now... ;)
