I don't mean any disrespect to "Go Play In Space". It was crucial to my learning how to fly in Orbiter.
Unfortunately, it's a bit dated. IMFD has changed since that was written, so the tutorials aren't always easy to apply today, and the authors weren't all that fluent with IMFD to begin with - it was pretty new at the time.
Orbiter has also changed. So getting the oV to 2.916 may not be possible in newer versions of IMFD and Orbiter. This is the problem with tutorials that give specific numbers, rather than teach you how to come up with the numbers yourself. Don't get me wrong - in most respects "Go Play ..." is still the best overall tutorial out there. But for certain tasks, better tutorials are available.
When it comes to IMFD, I recommend two tutorials. One is IMFD Full Manual/Playbacks:[ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=4142"]IMFD Full Manual/Playbacks[/ame]
This is probably the most complete tutorial available. It even contains an annotated flight recording of an Earth - Mars trip. It is also a good reference, with all the info you need to do most things. In the one of the PDF's, it gives a simple, repeatable process to set up an interplanetary trip using Target Intercept. It also show how to use the various parts of IMFD to perform a journey start to finish.
The other is: [ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=5207"]IMFDTuto[/ame]
This tutorial seems to take some of the info from "Full Manual/Playbacks" and simplify it a bit more.
Both tutorials together shoule get you anywhere you want to go with IMFD.
