Though, to be honest, I'll watch those 800 Tb worth of data. The fact that they have hired a physicist to make the black hole and wormhole shaders is a cool one on its own. I mean, look at this hot black hole:

The structure of the black hole-accretion disk complex is amazing to say the least.

Im really worried that some of the more fictional elements may distort what could possibly be the most scientifically accurate movie of the decade. Some parts of the script have some really heavy political flaws and towards the end, the script seems to throw out Newtonian physics.

IIRC Artlav did some experiments on that few years ago.

It tells the raytracer what to do with the rays when they approach the black hole, so to me this is a shader. I might be wrong after that, but to me, and with my little Blender experience, that every material (in Cycles) is a shader, composed of one/several subshaders.
Technically it would have been much simpler to design a shader that bends light than to include the whole relativity principle with newtonian physics into the simulation. But it's my little word on that, I'll be more than happy to see the making of the film.

And yes, I remember the little app Artlav made where you could go through a worm hole and teleport yourself from one scenery to another.

I must admit it is the one film this year that might convince me to put my bum in a cinima seat.

By this time, the movie has an IMDB-rating of 9.2 of 10, voted by nearly 51 000 people. With IMDB's special algorithm on the Top 250-list, this results in a 13th place on the list of the best movies ever made.

Not bad. But I believe the average rating will fall as time goes and the hype has faded.

Seen the movie today.
Their wormhole looked really good (and i've seen more accurate renderings of one than mine is). Too bad they over-dramatised and technobabbled the passage through it.

It is, however, a great movie. Lots of cut corners and repealed newton's laws in it, but in general it is good.

It's not terribly accurate and i cut some corners to make it real-time (i.e. you can't get into the actual throat of it and fly perpendicular to space), but the basic shape should be plausible.

I saw it last night, loved it. It's nice to see a movie that portrays the beauty of space without the horrible destruction (looking to you, Gravity).

I was impressed with how accurate in general this movie was, especially with the black hole. An interesting concept that I've never though about before was what it'd be like to be on a planet orbiting a black hole. That first planet had one hell of a high tide. There's got to be planets like that out in the universe, long ago stripped of their parent star and being pulled in towards destruction by a black hole's incredible gravity.

And the black hole itself was incredible. I got chills when Cooper was going into the singularity of Gargantua. In general, the scenery and music gave me chills.

9/10, docked a point for the cheesy plot point that "love transcends space and time" and what not.

This is a real space movie, not just a space disaster movie, but one that captures to true beauty of the universe.

Seriously, how awesome is this?

I had this chalked up as an Armageddon remake, and I haven't stepped in a movie theater in 10+ years, but now I am tempted on this one. Hmmm...maybe I'll take a drive down to the multiplex tomorrow and burn a few hours on this.

I saw the movie this evening. It's a must-see for orbitnauts, but also a good movie for partners and (older) children of orbitnauts too!

I'll not give anything away, but the semi-manual docking to the main ship at a 67 rpm rotation was outrageously scary. Thank god the main ship was not perturbed in multiple degrees of freedom, or that would have been near impossible to dock.

My Steam username has been Interstellar since the announcement of Voyager 1 really entering interstellar space. Now I've had a couple people in games ask me what I thought of the movie. I haven't seen it. Christopher Nolan stole my username.

I still plan on watching the movie by next week. But I doubt it would replace Moon as my favorite science fiction movie and movie overall.

There is a Firefox plugin to encrypt text as you type, his name is "LeetKey". It can decode it as well (obviously) so yeah, that might be a good idea. Not easy to read unless you take the personal action to decrypt if yourself: pretty much idiot proof. :thumbup:

From what I hear it's a good movie seriously hampered by explaining itself way too much. As one of my favourite critics put it "...you get the impression that the cast is constantly afraid of Neil DeGras Tyson barking in on them to check their numbers any moment now".

Don't hink I'll go see it in cinema, evenings off are somewhat complicated with the kids...
