I was looking around the area of Istres Airport, France, and there is a smudged-out area about 30Km to the West.
Does anyone know whats under it?

Google Earth.

Many thanks, N.

That's the "Natural Park de Camargue".

Here's the official link if you're interested.

No secret military area there, only marshes, protected birds and horses. A very beautiful landscape, if you come in France one day it's a nice sight. ;)

I would guess the area is blured becaused it's a protected area. Maybe some hunters use Google Earth.

:hello: Hi Notebook: interesting curiosity. If you turn street view on, there several instances of the road getting close to the "fuzzy areas" and you can see some the buildings and structures that are smudged out.

I suspect this could be a dissimulation of industrial pollution :

Etang de Vaccares

What kind of structures ? It's a surface of water...

Yeah... Fear the Great Flamingo missle ! :hailprobe:

Thanks for the reply folks.

To Viper1, greetings, and I try to stay away from GoogleVision, you never know what comes your way!

(Take a while on that bike) Mind how you go, G.

To N Molson, thanks for that, I always associated the Carmargue with Spain. My geography getting rusty, or does it cross the border!?

Oh I see. The runway you are speaking from is a Shuttle Landing Facility (in case of transoceanic abort). Of course it's a military base. I don't know what they could hide except a pair or two of rusty Mirage fighters...

Not really . The frontier between France and Spain is a chain of mountains (Pyrenees) that make a natural barrier between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranee. The Camargue is a vast area of swamps in the South-East of France, near the sea.

Thanks for that, my geography is getting poor! For some reason I've always thought of The Camargue as Spanish. Learn something every day:)

If you know how it's pronounced, there's no way to misplace it. I seldomly heard (or) spoken a word that sounds more French...

But my French is falling into Limbo too lately... It's weird. Everyone who learns bosnian seems to forgett french. I have no Idea yet why that is. :shifty:

Ah, well, I don't speak much French (or Spanish). Some people say I can barely speak English, but I've got a document to prove it!
