In the mid-eighties, the "Jarvis" project was the last serious attempt to revive the glorious Saturn V rocket, and at the same time, one of the first ideas of an alternative use for the Space Shuttle hardware, many years before the modern "Ares" and "SLS" projects.
Forum Orbiter Italia has developed a complete and versatile family of heavy launchers around these original ideas and projects.
Included in the package, the "Verrazzano" logistic spacecraft and various other payloads.

New features of the version 2.75:

  • More updates and corrections in the config files.
  • New generic BEO scenarios for Jarvis E, H, M.
  • More fairings and payload adapters for Jarvis L, C, E and M.
  • Some new and even more realistic textures.
  • Updated documentation with a bonus: cutaways of Jarvis H and Jarvis M.
The following add-ons are required:
Vinkas Multistage2
Vinkas Spacecraft3
(with Orbiter 2006-P1 patch, included in the package).
Orbiter 2010-P1 requires the stage.dll patch (included in the package).
http://users.swing.be/vinka/ For the Capo Passero scenarios, is also required the ASVI base - Capo Passero, V2.0, by Orbiter Forum Italia.

For the KH-11 scenarios, is required the Vandenberg Air Force Base.

Only for the "Verrazzano Moon Mission" scenario, is required the Antares Manned Spacecraft, 2.1 or higher, by Orbiter Forum Italia.

Very nice addition ! Only one comment; the Documentation does not very clearly describe how to add your own payload to the init. files.

I've tried several meshes as new payload names in the described space buit they all led to crash to desktop after fairing seperation, or the payload just dissapeared.

Any help would be greatly appriciated; enclosed my changes as I've made them.

[PAYLOAD_1]
off=(0,0,60.5)
speed=(0,0,1.0)
rot_speed=(0,0,0)
MeshName="galaxy"
Module="spacecraft\spacecraft3"
name="galaxy"
Diameter=2.9
Height=5.6
Mass=84500

I assume you have a galaxy.ini in config/spacecraft ?

Are all the textures set to .dds and all in the texture folder ? Also the meshes need to be in the meshes folder. I'm just speaking from experience with some problems I've had with MS2.

Got 'R fixed, meshes were not in the "main" meshes folder.

Thanks Don !

You're welcome !

I too seem to be having the same difficulty in loading cargo aboard Jarvis-E. I'll review what Yoda went through and feed back, otherwise including a copy of the payload.ini I construct. For the record, I was attempting to load Kulch's Tranzit vessel, which can be installed without any problem aboard Energia using the Payload Manager. Perhaps a suggestion for improvement?

Unfortunately, Jarvis is a typical multistage-based vessel, and the only way for payload configuration is the direct editing of the Jarvis_x.ini.

COMING SOON:
an expansion pack for the Jarvis rocket family:

Jarvis-L ("light" version), with a payload capacity of 27,900 kg to LEO (a direct competitor for Ariane 5 or Delta IV Heavy ;))

Jarvis-Centaur (i hope), a cheaper version with a payload capacity of about 22,000 kg to LEO.

The problem is not in editing the init. file.
I've been able to attch several different payloads succesfully.

My issue is that once the payload seperates from the last stage it simply vanishes and when I try to change my view to the payload (F3) I get a crash to desktop.

In my experience, you have a mesh as a payload, that has no .cfg or .ini for it when it gets spawned.

Or where it is looking anyway.

In this particular add-on, you are only asked to provide a meshname as payload, so were would I define the config.file in this init.file to be associated with this mesh ?

In config/vessels, the config/*addon* or config/spacecraft.

A new and slightly updated version of the "workhorse" of the italian Orbiter team.

I hope you like it.

A new version of the Jarvis launcher (1.7) is coming. This version is preparatory for the new Antares Block II space capsule and various new features will be added:

- improved meshes
- some useless versions deleted; some other added
- more reliable Multistage autopilot
- commentary at launch
- max-q and explosive bolts effects

Looking ever better and ISA will certainly add these to their collection!!

Very cool rocket, love the design.

I'm actually kind of sad it's multistage-based because I've always found dealing with editing config files for every mission or payload to be frustrating.
