Got a new Saiket X2R Pro and I love it!
Unfortunately, in Orbiter's perspective, The only controls that a are functional are the joystick itself and the slider, no buttons.

Is there any program / orbiter addon that can map the buttons to, say, some of the keys on a keyboard? That way, for example, the "E" button on the slider to the backspace key, so I can toggle the turbopump on a DGIV.

Or mayby SHIFT+D on the fire button into Bomb MFD

I've tried Fly-By-Wire MFD and unfortunatel it only supports aircraft control as well.

X2R? do you mean X52?

I know the X45 (what I have) came with a Saitek Profiler software which allows you to map joystick buttons to keyboard commands. Did yours come with something similar?

Oh I see... that must be the SST software, no? I thought that may have been just for developers, i'll check it out.

And yes, thats what I meant... I keep thinking of the XR2 :P

Try "Joycur"

I use an old old Saitek USB Gold stick, and a mapping program called "Joycur.exe". You can downlaod it for free (just google the name), and at the size of a few KBs it does what the SST software does with 12 MB :)

Joystic Mapping...

For Win 2K I use Joystick 2 Mouse 3 (freeware) to map the buttons on my Sidewinder Precision Pro. For Win XP, I use Joycur (also freeware) for another Sidewinder. But I also have a Saitek X52 throttle on the XP. For that I use the profiling software that came with the throttle. I launch the profile for the throttle, then turn off the profiler and start Joycur before I start Orbiter. The problem I'm having is that the Orbiter launch pad only lets you choose 1 joystick. This means either, choose the joystick and forget the throttle, or use FlyByWire to assign axis. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE FlyByWire however, if I don't choose a joystick in the Orbiter Launch pad it causes my RCS system to be permenantly active. In other words: If I'm flying a DGIV or the XR-2 in the Earths atmosphere and I manuver, both the flight control surfaces and the RCS are active (even if the panels on the afore mentioned spacecraft show the RCS modes switched off). This suits me just fine when I'm flying the Millennium Falcon...not so much when I'm going for realism.:(

Errr...nevermind

This means either, choose the joystick and forget the throttle, or use FlyByWire to assign axis.

I guess I forgot about the all important third option: Choose the joystick (in orbiter launch pad), set the main engine control to "keyboard only" but continue to use FlyByWire for the throttle. That works fine.
