Project Jupiter Class Orion Nuclear Pulse Spacecraft - Under Development

Progress so far - More surface and texture detail added to the main Orion Nuclear Pulse Spacecraft 'Freeman Dyson'.

The Crew Escape Vehicle has become a lot more detailed than I originally planned and has become the major part of the work over the last week. The trouble is knowing when to stop ;)

An animated version of the Crew Escape Vehicle, which I'm calling 'Fireball' for the moment can be seen here - http://www.aovi93.dsl.pipex.com/my_orbiter_addons.htm

You may need to wait a while for all the images to load.

Somewhere I mentioned a mid December release date...thats seems to be a bit over optmistic now. :sorry: Early next year perhaps?

Next Tuesday is fine...

Some lovely details and design on that pod, I'd think about calling it a day on it soon - looks like a complete 'thing'. Plus when it is fully textured up it will be even more detailed.

keep up the good work, mate.

Amen to that. Addon-making is like an addiction.

Take your time. Better to get it right!

Once your Jupiter V rocket is released, AndyMc, I plan on replacing the Nova-ssto in my own addons' packaged scenarios with it, since it's the only futuristic Nova-class rocket I see in Orbiter these days. All the others are 1960s concepts that died on the drawing board. Jupiter V is a much more recent idea. Plus the Jupiter III is already there, so it makes a nice family. I'll be watching for this one!

I think I'll take your advice. However as the Jupiter V-X is basically complete, though not quite ready for the 'Dyson' (the fairing needs to be a bit bigger) I'll release it shortly, set up for the same payload as the Jupiter III-X (around 240Mt), which while overpowered for it can easily send my Mars CTV to escape velocity.

In fact the 'Dyson' will not mass much more than this, and is based on the 3 x Saturn V - Orion launch study (for LEO assembly). The Jupiter V-X being able to send the spacecraft on its way, well beyond Earth orbit, will allow the nuclear pulse units to be exploded clear of Earth. I guess the crew would meet it a few days after launch in a CEV. Perhaps Earth-Sun L2 would be a suitable staging point.

Anyway, not long now!

The crew better hope the pulse units work as advertised, or it's going to be a loooong mission... doh! (8^(|))

That was the biggest rocket I have ever soared into space! It's high payload volume is unlike any other launcher I've seen aside from the Nexus and makes it ideal for a huge variety of payloads. Great work, I love this launcher.

This looks really elaborate and impressive, I can't wait to fly it. I've been waiting for an add-on to do the whole Orion concept justice, and this looks to do it a good deal more than that. I love all the attention to detail, too - Looks like it'll be really fun to take for a long mission.

Any updates on this? I'm a little disturbed that Andymc hasn't posted on the forums since December; hopefully it's just RL getting in the way? It'd be a shame to let such pretty models go to waste ;)
