Project Kalaeolo Airport, Honolulu.

The other islands look a bit strange with Oahu done, so I'll put level zero tiles on them.

I've done something odd with the dds conversions, I think its the mipmaps. Looks odd when you zoom in from height. Have to go through the lot again, so this will slow thing down. didn't notice till I used another machine, ho hum.

A quick question...

I'm using Orbiter 100830 with Patch 1, then add the Earth091124_11_14.zip planet texture upgrade.
I'm trying to match level zero surface tiles to this, here's a pic:
http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k207/Notebook_04/12072008-39-17GL-01.jpg

The problem is, Oahu and the two islands to the NW, Kauai and Molokai appear to be the original textures? You can see the rectangles around them.
Is this the same for everyone, or has my install messed up? Tried a few installs, and sems consistent.

Not a big problem, will have to match the colours in the lvl zero tiles to the Earth texture, and muck about with transparency. Just want to check its not my install.

N.

Well, I tried mucking about with transparency, and my artistic efforts have come to naught!

So, plan B...extract the relevant zero level tiles from the Earth .tex file, and match the ocean to the adjacent tiles. All to get rid of the hard lines you can see in #23 above.

I install Earth091124_11_14 on top of Orbiter100830_P1.

Did some searching for .tex extractors and found this:

[ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=4115"]Moon - Cleaned and remastered Level 9[/ame]

also stand alone:

[ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=4114"]Tune Your Planet v0.3[/ame]

Used the "TuneYourPlanet" utility as directed, and now have 15,648 .tga files in a directory...level 9s.
They look ok:

http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k207/Notebook_04/Kaleola_2.png

However, on second look, Kaleola_2.png(and the original extracted .tga) seems more pixelated than I'd expect?

Never played with .tex files before, am I on the right track here? Is there a better/simpler extractor? how are the Olympics?

All input appreciated.

Hello Notebook,

There is the old pltextool ( number two for the last release ), made by daver, avaible on Orbithangar few years ago. I used it at some moments in the past, and i remember that the interface was simple. Compared to tuneyourplanet... i don't remember, if i tried it also.

I've not in my mind if there have been changes in the structure ( ? ) of tex files with the recent releases of Orbiter ( other distrib of textures on the map ) but anyway, if you want to try it ...

I cand sent it to you via mail ( 687 ko ).

I think, anyway, that the result will be the same.

Shameless plug: have you tried Orbiter Base Maker V1.1.2? [ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=5607"]Orbiter Base Maker V1.1.2[/ame] It will do that it the tile editor.

Thanks Fort, I vaguely remember pltex.

I think "TuneYourPlanet" will do what I want.

Forgot that there are various resolutions inside the .tex(there's a surprise!), so its not surprising I found a low-res version of the tile I want.

Just browsing through it at the moment, interesting stuff. Well, it is compared to the Olympics...

Hi csanders, and I have been using your Base Maker, but its early days with it, and I don't want to confuse myself with two unknowns.

Basic problem is I need to match a 0 level surface tile, with a corresponding level tile from the .tex file.
As far as I read you start at level 1 tiles?

If I have missed something there, please advise.

N.

Thanks again Fort, the table in #9 is relevant to what I'm trying to do.

You can also see that resolution level 14 corresponds to a surftile resolution level of 2. So surftiles of resolutions 0, 1 and 2 can now be replaced by standard surface textures.

From that, a planet texture level 12 in the .tex file corresponds to a level 0 surface tile that I make using Surface Tile Calculator, and Google Earth.

At the moment, I'm just browsing through the output from "TuneYourPlanet", looking for a match. Not very technical, but at least I know what I'm looking for!

I've made it few times. In french, i'll say: " A la guerre comme à la guerre".

There is also in Orbiter 2005 a tool that could help: the Tilemanager, giving a grid ( long/lat ) for tex files.

I remember Tilemanager, I'll give that a go.

thanks again, N.

May i suggest in the honor of these new islands:
The great and still unrivaled Ukulele Orchestra of... Great Britain!

Yes, they keep popping up here every now and then. Suspiciously competent, they must have day jobs.

Free Orbiter copy to anyone who knows the first tune, and the voiced character referenced in it... That should keep folk quiet for a bit.

I'm sure ... that I do not know. But I can tell how old was Rimbaud, if you ask me

 I soon was going to be born. This seems once more to confirm that the world existed before my birth :)

I've split this into two, level 6 tiles for the base add-on and 7 to 9 for the additional textures.
I'm having trouble getting into the Text field on the up-load form in OrbitHangar?

Managed it on the base version, but I think the additional one is uploading without text info.
I'll have to update that.
What am I doing wrong with the form?
All the other fields work fine.

EDIT:
Memory is going, forgot about this:
