I have an idea for a new add-on, that (I think) wouldn't be too hard to code and it would also be extremely useful. What if there was a 'Kill Translation', relative to the closest ship, autopilot? It could activate with Numpad 7. So it would be as easy to reach as the KillRot autopilot, and we'ss finally have a function for that button, which doesn't really do anything. I would code it myself, but I can't code a 'Hello World' program, so if anyone could make it, I would be glad. Thanks! :)

Exactly.

Also, I know about those, but maybe there could be a way to make that more efficiently. After all, you don't have to open an MFD to kill rotation, do you?

I think the DGIV Autopilot has this function, but I'm not sure:

You don't have to chose what you want to kill the relative roation to. With translation you have to specify a target.

Just don't specify "Earth" by mistake. (actually, the MFD must check whether the distances and orbital parameters' difference are within tolerances)

Just like the DGIV autopilot, but for all vessels. It would automatically lock on the closest vessel.

Also, you have to specify what to kill rotation relative to, you need a global frame. Orbiter uses the stars around you, I think, which in the simulation are fixed.

I don't have to specify global frame because it's ALWAYS global frame.

What if the closest ship is landed on Mars, and you're in LEO?
The "kill rotation" is a simple version of "rate control" that exists in real space craft. Killing relative motion in Orbiter is already far easier than in real life, thanks to the HUD.
Try installing AttitudeMFD, and look for "TRIMMING RELATIVE VELOCITY" in the manual.

AttitudeMFD

Exactly.

[ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=3165"]Attitude MFD V3.2[/ame]

Within this addon is the ability to null your speed relative to another target. I have used it for station keeping manoeuvres.

The [ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=3530"]Intermod_2[/ame] Mod does it, too (among other fine functions). I find it a bit easier than [ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=3165"]Attitude MFD V3.2[/ame]. Especially in difficult docking situations, the press of a keyboard key comes in a bit handier than handling an MFD. But this is just my opinion.

It is confirmed to be working with Orbiter 2010.
