This is a large airfield with five runways, corresponding taxiways and lots of parking. Several buildings are scattered around the area. I have placed it at the location of KATL (Hartsfield) in Atlanta, Ga. USA. It uses default textures only.
Update 18 Aug 2012: This update adds surface tiles and a control tower. It also fixes some of the overlapping taxiways and adds a few more buildings.

Yeah, this really deserves the Airbace certification. :)

If we would have one.

Enough with the Bace meme, just focus on the addon.

Why? It might be pretty silly, but generally, it isn't harmful. we also have the Cult of the Probe :hailprobe: as "meme" here, which is maybe a tiny bit more sophisticated and of a higher standard - but still pretty unnerving to those, who don't understand it.

It could use some improvements though:
- More detailed surface tiles. It's hard to judge your altitude visually during landing when you're landing on a low detail surface. That, and it would look better.
- Align the runways and taxiways better. Some go at an angle and don't overlap well. I also question the safety of having to cross one or more runways before takeoff.
- Tower, as mentioned before.
- Spread the landing pads / heli pads a bit. I'm not sure you'd want one DGIV hovering above others.

Other than that, change the zip folder structure. Currently you have everything inside Large_Airfield_KATL folder, which makes extracting a bit awkward.

That's really cool! Can you add the Tower in the middle of the field? I made a screenshot in FSX for the exact position for you.

Is there a default mesh for a control tower? If there is where is it located?

Nice work, I may add to it, if I may?

You can do as you wish with it.

If you're the one getting your feelings hurt you might feel differently about the not harmful part.

I wonder if normal maps could be applied to runway textures, or buildings... :hmm:

Sorry, did the best I could with the knowledge that I have.

Which is good for a first airbac.. err airbase ;)

With some custom textures and a few custom mesh, that would be a 5-stars, IMHO.

I wouldn't get hurt feelings about this, but then I am used to the community for already a while longer and know that such kinds of public jokes are much better for your mental well-being as the jokes that are not done in public.

As long as the jokes happen inside the forum in full public, it is first of all a give and take, since those who do the jokes also do one step towards you reducing the distance. I would even say: Such jokes are in all communities a sign that you are really accepted there. (I am pretty sure, even the religious police in Saudi-Arabia, which is not known for their humor, does have such kind of practical jokes among them.)

If people don't do jokes about you in your presence and you don't have to take some official ridicule sometimes, you should be worried. Really worried.

I stand corrected.

I'm worreied, really worreied.

Normal Maps on Base Objects

I wonder if normal maps could be applied to runway textures, or buildings... :hmm:

Yep, I did that with D3D9Client RC30 and later (although the textures cannot have an alpha channel, bug introduced by RC33)

I understand that. I can appreciate that you didn't just release a one-building-one-runway airfield - or Probe forbid I say it - Moon Airbace. I can see you put some effort into it, but there's still room for improvement. I just hope you're not offended by constructive criticism.

Not at all. I learn something new every day. :)

Hey thanks,

I will do some work on it, adding some jet-ways, and I will look into possibly creating static airport vehicles.
