I've been using Orbiter for a number of years and it's something I really enjoy playing around in. The main question on my mind right now however is is it still under active development? I understand that there's only one guy involved in the core development (an achievement in itself) but is he still working on the project?

lol...I know you're just innocently asking (and I dont blame you, I would probably ask the same thing if I was new to this), but this is a question that gets asked it seems, once a week. And then everybody does there best to explain that:

Yes, the project is still very active

No, there's not any realistic prospect of a new stable version coming out soon.
but wait its not that simple...because there is a possibility of Martin releasing a new version soon...but not that soon so don't get excited....well no one really knows when ....but there's a beta version....yes, but that's not stable....but it still works....well don't try it with addons....and someone inevitably points out the usefulness of Orbiter Forum's search feature...which for someone new is totally meaningless because:

a) you dont know what terms are applicable for the info you seek

b) you get so many lengthy threads with a general term that you really cant go though it all

c) you assume that there should be an obvious and accessible answer to such a basic question and feel like your just not looking in the right spot.

But in truth the answer to that question only exists in a collective consciousness of nerds like us who keep up with an amalgam of forum snippets on a daily basis. And of course the only man who really counts Dr. Martin Schweiger who is probably sick as hell of getting that question. And like anyone who's tactful about their life probably does not want to commit his hobby to a deadline anyway.

so there you have it

The next version will, of course, be released on Tuesday.
