The LC-39B at Kennedy Space Center is to be used for the Ares 1-x flight later in the summer. There was supposed to be a structure fixed on top,and a new lightning rod on top of that. Has anyone seen progress on LC-39b recently? Any recent pictures?

Growing up with the shuttle ive never seen a SRB that large before, its going to be an exciting mission. Also has anybody done a scenario for Ares 1-X? maybe the pad textured and all that stuff.

As to my knowledge, the following work has been completed:

. New lightning towers erected around LC-39B
. Lightning tower atop FSS (Fixed Service Structure) has been removed
. Oxygen Vent Arm Hood has been removed
. Orbiter Access Arm w/ white room has been removed

I believe they are still going to add a new, taller lightning tower atop the FSS.

Here's what LC-39B should look like when all work is completed (although the crew access arm visible in this picture has now been removed). Note the new, taller lightning tower atop the FSS:

There's lots of great pictures at the link DaveS posted.

Actually, since the three new lightning mast towers have been completed, there's no need for FSS lightning mast extension anymore. So that one won't be constructed.
