I wonder if I should open this box or leave it sealed for collectors purposes.

If you plan on selling it, leave it in the box, and put it in the attic. If you want to play around with it, obviously, open it up!

I have this particular set, and it is neat to leave on your table. It provides for some nice "eye candy".
