Can someone enlighten me as to how these are generated for the new version of Orbiter? I've been away for awhile (returned to the forums in May after a long hiatus). I know the 2006-P1 version supports Level 10, but I can find nothing in the docs on how to generate planetary textures at this level. plTex seems to work as it always did for levels 1-9, but when I consult the docs I find nothing on how to arrive at L10. The API Guide in the Orbiter SDK only contains the following:
"ORBITER currently supports 9 resolution levels for planetary surfaces, as listed in Table 1. At the highest resolution the sphere is constructed from 364 patches with an effective texture resolution of 16384x8192. Figure 4 shows a detail of the Martian surface rendered at different resolution levels."
My questions:
1. What size (resolution, e.g. 16384x8192) does my initial .bmp file have to be?
2. Can plTex be used for the task, or do I need another tool?
Thanks in advance for your replies. I'm looking forward to getting back in to add-on development, just need to familiarize myself with the new version.
Cordially,
