Keep in mind that there are no global coverage L14 textures (yet). These textures only have large parts of Florida in L14, the rest in L11.

It would be about 60 GB for global coverage of whole planet (i.e. if there were no water regions). With water regions of Earth I estimate global Earth lvl 14 for about 26 GB (+ 16 GB landmask).

Nah, 60 GB would be for Moon or Mars. Earth would be only about 40 GB.

How amazing would that be. I love taking off from the Cape because it looks so much more photo realistic which gives you a better feel of the sim. It would be a huge sacrifice on my HD, but I would surely download it.

plus, on Earth, 70% of that is just water... so it should go for around 30-40 GB tops :thumbup:

I found a good site while browsing for Earth textures that may be useful for making a level 14 texture if anyone wants to try it:

It has 48 total high resolution (it says 250m resolution but I think it may be more) tiles of Earth, each 21,600 x 21,600 pixels. It comes out to be 172,800 x 129,600 pixels in size all together. I tried to make it into a texture but I gave up because my computer has trouble handling the huge textures.

It is missing Antarctica and some parts of it would need touching up, especially in the oceans. I'm no expert in making textures, so I don't know if these are the correct projection or can even be made into a texture, but I thought I might as well throw it out there.

That gives level 12 after rounding down, or blurred level 13 if you upscale it to 262144 x 131072 pixels. If there are 172800 pixels horizontally through equator, then resolution is about 232 meters (per pixel) there.

Oh, I always get confused about how big each level is. I think I asked you before in the IRC; I should have written it down.

Still, it could be useful for a level 12 texture which is higher than any other available today.
