News London 2012: Olympic Orbit tower to be unveiled

Oh is THAT what that monstronsity is? I go past it everyday on the train - I'll snap a picture on the way home tonight.

'The tangled steel lattice - 63% of which is recycled steel - incorporates the five Olympic rings. '

Tangled steel is about right, it looks like its collapsed and I never knew it was supposed to incorporate the olympic rings. it just looks like an eyesore to me.

Someone said it looked like the "Eifle Tower after a nuclear strike".

It is so ugly, I am sure it will win an architecture prize because of it.

What's this preoccupation with "deconstructable" buildings for the Olympics? I've seen the Stadium as well in the NGC, and hell it looks like some stadium which went anorexic, just make yourself very nice buildings that can last 80 years, like the Berlin Olympic stadium, you can always reuse it again and again that way.

anyone else can't help it but to be reminded of "world of goo"?

Yes it does! and I LOVE World of Goo! Honeslty a great game and I wish they would have made it possible to build higher =) The "Goo" needs to be a little less flxeible lol, although I guess that's what makes it fun, being that it's a little difficult to work with. I've beat this game like 25 times. I think I'm ready for a sequel!

Several photos of the Olympic venue including a lot of the building work still going on, one of the stadiums and that damned ugly twisted tower.

And this is the tower itself:

Sorry garyw, they all look under exposed, not sure I can judge any quality from those.

Edit: also, some of the images, don't even have the the subject in shot! are you trying for wedding work, or a friend of David Baily?

No offence, N.

As long as it can be recycled again...

Cut him some slack, they have been taken with an iPhone from a moving train. It's a 3 Mpx camera with little in the way of manual exposure controls and a small lens (like all cameraphones), and the glass and movement have a way to play havock with the results.

You try taking photos from a moving train in the rush hour. I'm not going for a quality award here just for some shots of how Stratford is shaping up for the Olympics. Please feel free to head down there and take some much higher resolution shots.

Every photo has the subject in shot. The first few are of the building work, some of the stadium, one of the tower, one of the Westfield shopping centre and the last of Stratford Intl where the javelin service will be running for the Olympics.

I have no sympathy, when I was a lad we had to use these:

Flying-spot...it was fields around here.

EDIT: you do realise I'm having some fun here, or have I gone over the top?
