Question Making custom skin for delta-glider

If you have the ScnEditor (Scenario Editor) selected in the [Modules] tab (from the Orbiter Launchpad). Once done, just press [CTRL]+[F4] once you're in the simulator and edit to your hearts desire.

With the DG selected via Scenario Editor you can select which custom repaint you want to use. The ;hangar has loads of repaints for the DGIV.

Here's a thought, maybe some of the more experienced players could pool their knowledge and put together a guide for scenario editing, repainting, and addon making? Like Go Play in Space but for the customization aspect of Orbiter.

Edit: Kinda cool, my 50th post

What are you using to open the scenario file with to edit it?
Any text editor, i.e. Notepad, etc. (but I use F4 in FAR manager). The ".scn" files are just plain text files, so to edit them outside of Orbiter, you can open them with text editor of your preference.

ah.. it seems I was/am the victim of Vista. It's not letting me edit them for some reason. I'll give it a go on another box. Thanks!

I'll give that a go now. Thanks! I'm sure I can do a whole bunch of damage that way.. I like it. :tiphat:

The F-4 trick, doesn't seem to bring up editing for textures on the craft though. What is the "FAR manager"?

I'll need to go slow at first till I know what all the lines call up.
What I'm trying to do is to put together some ReFuel ships landed for one scenario at the corporate headquarters. Trying to assemble the 2 corporate XR2's and a couple XR5 heavy lifters... great fun.

Thanks for all the help!

I REALLY hate vista.

Anyone have a clue why the thing won't even save a simple textfile? Says it cant find the path.. etc. I know all I have to do is save the thing on a computer with a real operating system.. but if any have vista advice.. aside from just taking an axe to it... I'd appreciate it.

You edit textures with graphics editor, and scenario files with text editor or scenario editor. You can directly select skin textures in Orbiter's Scenario Editor plug-in, only if vessel module implements that for scenario editor, like DGIV.

FAR Manager is text-mode file and archive manager for Windows, I use for most things everyday. More details about it in my comment to Must-Have Freeware Tools Article.

I don't know what to tell you about Vista. I don't use it at home, but I've never had issues with editing text / scenario files in Notepad, when I was using it last time. Try to run notepad as Administrator, or select *.* as file type while opening / saving, or download some freeware notepad-like text editor and try with it, maybe. You can find some links to freeware text editors in Must-Have Freeware Tools Article.

Disable UAC, or put Orbiter somewhere other than your Program Files directory (I use C:\Games\Orbiter)

Sorted.. thanks for that. When I set things up I didn't set up a user account on the thing so I assumed that the default logon was as administrator.

Damn this simulator is addictive.

Thanks for all the help getting this sorted gang! Big help to a newbie.

You might check out computerex's article here. He's compiled a very good list of tutorials and tools for anyone interested in addon development.
