Hey all,

I tried installing Seth Eden's Mars lvl10 this weekend after having a lot of luck with his Earth lvl10, but the Mars addon doesn't seem to be engaging. I did edit the max visual texture overlay line in the mars.cfg file to 10 instead of 8, but Mars still doesn't look any different than in the base orbiter install.

Has anyone run into this? Is there a problem with running Earth and Mars at lvl 10 at the same time?

here's the file I'm working off of. http://www.setheden.com/LandSat/Maps/MarsL10/Mars_L10.zip

The only reason that comes to mind would be that you did not preserve file structures when unpacking.
I can't think of anything else if the earth L10 works for you.

how big is the visual difference between the stock mars and the lvl10?

You will know it when you get it to work. It is awesome.

No but Seth does recommend at least 1GB of RAM.

Yeah, I've got that. I think I should be fine on specs, but i am running a lot of high res textures on many of the jovian moons. Maybe the program is capping out somewhere. I'll try it over a clean install tonight and see what's going on.

Anything about missing textures in the logs?

I haven't checked, is that the kind of thing that would make the program error out on startup, or does the rest of it just load around the missing stuff?

I tried over an install where it was just earth lvl 10 and mars lvl 10 and it still doesn't seem to be loading. just to be clear, you don't actually need a ship's presence in orbit to get the higher res texture to load? (i'm thinking here of how the earth texture will re-res itself based on how close youre zoomed in to a ship.)

Does anyone have a screen grab of the lvl 10 mars handy that they could maybe post for my reference? Maybe I'm just expecting too much, but i don't think so, there's no real difference between the stock and after I load the lvl 10 stuff...

No, you don't need to be actually there of course, camera focus is enough.

I did a quick check and it seems that the link in the recommended addons point to a faulty texture. I installed it as well, and I didn't notice any difference either.

What I recommend is that you go to this page and download the L8 AND the L10 textures for Mars. First install the L8 package and the the L10 and you'll get something like this:

After checking the files, it seems that the one in the Recommended Addons is the same that I linked, but it lacks the L8 pack which is required to get it to work. There is no indication of this in the readme.

Thanks for the legwork, much appreciated. I did what you recommended and it seems to have worked! Much MUCH better than the other install. On my sceen, Mons doesn't appear as glossy as yours but I think thats probably more an issue of video card extras and resolution differences.
