Idea Mercury and Gemini add-on improvements

Will it work if I convert them to jpgs and then convert the jpgs to bmps?

No. You'd lose a lot of clarity and information in the conversion anyway. Do you have Photoshop? You can set the bit-depth with that.

What are you trying to do?

I don't got photoshop. What depth does it need to be?

I'm pretty sure it's 24 bit.

Actually, now that I think about it, you SHOULD be able to set that with your Paint program. Open the file with Paint, and "SAVE AS" (use the same file name), but make sure you select 24 bit bitmap from the dropdown menu for file type.

I don't know what you're trying to do, but you're helping me, so if I can help you out, let me know.

Let me finish some stuff on my paraglider and I'll start working on the gantry.

50%-gantry

I finished it. There had been many errors involving this part of the project, but I fixed it once and for all. Saturn just needs to update it and that is that.

Which textures are used for the spacecraft logos? I'm thinking of doing at least one for the fictional missions Star Voyager created.

So that I don't get lost on what's done, what's missing, please help correct, improve add to this status list. I'm listing the existing dll versions and possible spacecraft3 implementations for alternative or fictional missions (like Mercury dockings to space stations for example).

Mercury capsule (dll) - OK
Mercury capsule (spacecraft3) - NA
Mercury capsule detailed textures - OK
Mercury capsule VC (spacecraft3) - NA
Mercury boilerplate (spacecraft3) - WIP
Mercury boilerplate detailed textures - WIP
Redstone rocket (dll) - OK
Redstone rocket detailed textures - OK
Atlas rocket (dll) - OK
Atlas rocket detailed textures - OK
Atlas rocket (multistage) - OK? (adaptation to Mercury?)

Gemini capsule (dll) - OK
Gemini capsule (spacecraft3) - OK (?)
Gemini capsule VC (spacecraft3) - NA (could be done from existing)
Gemini boilerplate (spacecraft3) - NA
Titan rocket (multistage) - OK
Titan rocket detailed textures - OK
Agena (multistage) - WIP

Please feel free to correct and add links to whatever addons have the parts we might need for example.

Go to the texture folder in orbiter and find merc_Freedom7II.dds

It's a clean capsule ridges (merc_Freedom7II.dds). You can use it as a base and paint over it whatever you want.
Please remember that this change will affect all missions based on the Freedom7II capsule and backup the original file version.

The files are in DDS format. You can read the files using "IrfanView" with the proper plugins, and save them in JPG or BMP for work in any paint program. To convert back to DDS you can use "DDS Converter 2".

There are now a few mercury improvements.
Will they all be in one package?

How many improvments are there yet?

Got it. I'll be renaming the file when I save it so that does not occur. I'll upload the result to the thread when I'm done.

If someone takes the time to package the separate Mercury stuff, I'm all for it. :speakcool:

It's mostly a matter of sorting out permissions in my opinion. You'd have to get it from all the addon creators, unless it's already given in the addon readme files. Most of the stuff is usually free for private non-profit use in Orbiter but not to redistribute without permission. Nevertheless you should always ask.

As for the number of improvements... there's a list somewhere back on this thread on possible ideas to implement ;).

I mean, what else do you guys want done?

How about a fully functional ATDA that allows the "Angry Alligator" configuration with the Atlas SLV-3 as the launcher?

A detailed version of the Gemini AMU would also be nice. It was flown on Gemini 9 but was never tested.

AMU spacesuit and unit:

I'd be interested in seeing that also. I've got a copy of Analog Magazine with a story based around a fictional version of Gemini 9 that would make for a good scenario. It would also require Tether MFD.

Let me know if you want the paraglider mesh I did.

Me. I guess so. I was just stressed out because I was working on many addons. If you could give me it it would take a load off my back.I got the config ready and such.

Can it be done with spacecraft3 ? What would we need ? Astronaut mesh with docking ports? Undock from the seat and dock with the AMU? AMU mesh docked to Gemini? I could work in the future on meshes for this but I'd like to know were to start.

Just make an astronaut mesh and place it within the 3D model program and it will show up in Orbiter.

MJR,

Finally got a chance to test your latest animations. Excellent work.

However, I noted 2 small errors (circled in yellow below)...

LC14error.jpg

The first is a piece of the gantry that seperates from the structure and moves at a different rate when you begin the animation sequences. Unfortunately, as we've discussed, if I correct it, when I export the model again, I lose the animation (which sort of defeats the purpose, eh? ;)).

The second, which I suspect is a fairly easy fix, is the gantry being off the rails. I'm guessing it's another SHIFT issue? If I knew which set of figures to alter, I could probably fix it (I did note your comments regarding burnout and don't want to add to your frustration, but I don't know where to go from here).

But I do want to say "Thanks" for all your effort to this point...
