Idea Mercury and Gemini add-on improvements

Nice job! Quick question, though. At what rotation is the pad?

In relation to the ground mesh? About 6 degrees, but that's an irrelevant piece of information because what you're looking at is a shot taken in anim8or and the final rotation of the completed launch complex will be done when I configure the files in Orbiter itself.

Well... I'm... IMPRESSED! :tiphat: The combination of terrain and structures is really amazing and it does work. They were developed completely separate but we seem to have managed to get a good frame of reference (ground tiles & Google / Bing aerial images).

As for Pad14... when I feel like doing terrain again, I'll do it. As most of you know, this is a work of inspiration.
Right now, I'm having fun exploring the Moon using the Eagle Transporter so I'm improving it a little, just because It's what I'm into right now.
I'll eventually get tired and move on to other spacecraft. So, patience all, it will be done eventually and when I get started I'll work regarding whatever version of LC14 exists at the time.

That makes two of us!

I have to tell you, based on my experience, the odds of these two models having been developed totally seperately and working this well together are pretty slim. Either we got really lucky, or great minds think alike!

Either way, I can't thank you enough for all the work you put into the ground mesh.

Me three! Wonderful job and I can't wait until it comes out!

I wish I had an answer. I keep jumping back and forth between the launch complexes, the carriers & splashdown and the Atlas and ATDA launches.

4throck's ground mesh and texture is really something to behold. It just really pulls all the elements of LC19 together and I've been putting a lot of time into detailing the pad and support buildings to match his work.

Still trying to figure out a way to get additional (realistic) smoke from the pad at launch without having to code a dll.

I actually got it to work at LC14, but it didn't stop when it should have. If anybody's got any ideas...

I'd say don't bother much with the smoke. It will be some kind of a hack and from my experience that kind of solutions never work perfectly.
You might concentrate on implementing things that are sure to work, as you have a lot on your hands
Also, on some photos you can see some water hoses on the pad. If you are adding smoke you might also add that. Of course, it then never stops !

Oh, great...thanks for putting that thought in my head!

Actually, the smoke isn't really a "hack" since I'm not tampering with the Titan's dll, it's part of the pad. As I said, it worked with the exception of not stopping at the appropriate time. Gotta be an answer somewhere...I just haven't found it.

SaturnV, I think you are using an engine or RCS on the pad to simulate smoke :).
If you add a guidance file to the pad you can time the engine trust and that will control the release of particles. Also, if you reduce the amount of fuel available on the pad engine, it will stop sooner!

Now that may be the answer! I want to finish modeling the complex before I get into animation or function, but I'll keep that in mind. Taking a few days off for the Holiday, but the idea bears further investigation...thanks again!

Just want to wish a Merry Christmas, Happy & Healthy New Year, Feliz Navidad y Prospero Ano, and Happy Hannuka to all the Orbiteers & Gemini fans!

Be safe and have a happy one all!!!

holy wow! I saw that first picture without reading the text and thought it was a reference photo or something. that is outstanding work. I only wish I had a computer that could handle it

Thanks!

What are you running Orbiter on? The model is pretty complex, but so far I haven't noticed any performance issues (other than taking a minute to load everything).

Blockhouse, cable run, air conditioning sheds and security shack installed...

I'm not at home, so I can't tell you the exact specs, but it can't handle Med-Res KSC or seth's earth texture. :[
But I'm looking at buying a new one. that computer is like eight years old.

Ah. I had an e-machine that ran like that. It self-destructed after 3 years. In hindsight, I'm kinda glad it did because it forced me to buy the machine I've got now.

Getting ready to call it a day, and looking over the whole launch complex, I realized that quite a bit of progress has been made.

Aerial view of the complex with all of the major/support structures installed...

Slooooowly getting there...
