Idea Mercury and Gemini add-on improvements

After reading some responses to my therad (see bottom), I noticed that someone wanted a Mercury "Marooned" scenario. Does anybody know the failure mode for no retro fire on Mercury?

Never mind! It's number 4.

Saturn V, impressive modelling :-) Can't wait to test it.
Actually, I think I'd need some sort of "1st person" add-on to walk around the pad ;-)

Thank you. You could download a car or something from OH & just do a few "drive-bys"...oh, wait...that didn't sound right...

A UMMU in a mesh of a Mercury astronaut would do great! ;)

Launch complex 14 was finished this afternoon. I'll be putting it all together for upload to OH in the morning.

Sounds great! Can't wait to test it with my new Mercury scenarios I updated!

Mr. Saturn V, do you mind if I use your LC-14 for some Atlas B scenarios?

I spotted this Mercury modification on the NTRS thought it might make for an interesting addition to what is being done in this thread.

A proposal was made in late 1962 to use unmanned Mercury capsules as meteorite detectors. Each spacecraft would fly a 14 day mission carrying a coiled sheet of aluminum that could be extended outside the capsule (A bit like an extensible tape measure, see the attached pictures).

You're welcome...

While complex 14 is fresh in my mind, I decided to take care of the modifications that were made to accomodate the Atlas/Agena launches for Project Gemini before I finish complex 19.

The new tower and umbilical arm is done...

agenapad.jpg

The tower model is completely new (I discarded my previous effort).

In so far as I can tell, 3 temporary structures at the base of the pad are all that remain to be done. And yes, I will be releasing the Atlas/Agena with it (even though it is only semi-functional...it flies, but there is no automated guidance. If you want to fly it into orbit, you will have to do so manually. Otherwise, the Agena launch is just eye-candy).

I have a question. Is the pad animated or stationary? By the way, I get the same FPS with Mr. Kev33's pad and your's. B-E-A-Utiful!

No, there is NO animation. The basic structure of the models is several years old (both Kev's originals and my initial upgrades). All I'm doing is tweaking the stuff I've been using for quite awhile.

I don't have the time or inclination to fool with animating anything. My free time is already stretched pretty thin and finding more to aquire the requisite skill is unlikely.

I think the upgraded pads are pleasing enough to the eye in and of themselves. They're certainly "busier" than the default pads, and I share them with the hope that others may enjoy them as well. If one of you want to take a crack at animating them, by all means, be my guest.

I can animate them, but what needs to be animated?

The gantry on the far right in the picture above needs to be able to cover Agena, move out, and to the right (it's all on the track, same with Mercury).

I'll be able to do that if he lets me. It is simple.

I guess you could animate the retraction of the gantry, the umbilical cables falling away and the umbilical arm pivoting back against the tower if you're feeling ambitious ;). Historically, they moved at different rates & times, but as far as I know they're about all that moved at pad 14.

I'll start looking at it then.

I just looked over mesh debugger and the gantry consists of hundreds of meshes. This may take sometime.

Yes, it does. Remember, the basic physical model is over 4 years old and was made long before Alain Capt & Luis Teixeira fugured out how to do a very realistic looking pad using texture transparencies on their 39A (AMSO).

Its making me dizzy how many numbers are required. Lol.

I know this is really big, but can anyone find the fault in this? I knw it is in there, because it is not letting the others meshes animate but the ones before it.

You got repeating number one in front each number, for animation could be a problem, remove number one.
