I hope it is OK that I open this thread, because it does not really fit into the Mercury/Gemini thread next door.
Already a few years ago I had the idea of constructing a new version of the Mercury spacecraft, which I then had called Mercury II. Now I came across the name Agamemnon. (I once even wrote a short story, unfortunately incomplete, of a Suborbital Flight in an Agamemnon, capsule name Clyde).
I thought that such a Mercury II would look like the historical Mercury, but added with some features. In the BARIS game, Mercury is able to conduct an EVA and a "Duration B" flight (corresponding to 5 days). In that game, Vostok is able to do likewise, however I now found on Astronautix, that there were much longer Vostok flights planned (Vostok 7=8 days, 8= 10 days, 9= 12 days), high orbit scientific missions (Vostok 10/13) and even EVAs (Vostok 11/12)! So I don't see a reason why an "upgraded"/"next generation" Mercury could not do an EVA/fly 5 days/could also maybe have a docking system along with the needed RCS. What do you think?
EDIT: Here you find info on the Vostoks mentioned above: http://www.spacefacts.de/english/bio_cancelled.htm (simply click on them in the left column)
Would it be worth to try modelling it in Orbiter?
PS: I'm aware that all of the above is what Gemini was also able to. Nevertheless it would be interesting to have a one-man cabin being able of these operations.
