I have decided to finally model a human. I've spent a fair few hours (I'm not sure exactly how many) working on it. It's fully poseable (using armatures) and all textures were generated using The GIMP and it's default scripts.

What do you think?

I know the shoes need a lot work (they were just a very quick transformation from feet) and that it also needs ears.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

PS. The only reason it's wearing camo is becuase I wanted to play with The GIMP's camouflage pattern generator.

The body isn't too bad, i guess you haven't spent much time on the head yet? the legs look a bit short, though that might also be the perspective. The whole thing looks a little out of proportion infact but thats easy enough to fix. Have you loaded any reference pics to use? When i work on a character i'd start by getting a front and side view of a person and setting those up on planes in my viewport. These things can take a long time to get right, and it's a good idea to get off to the right start because it's easier to fix now than later, I've included a reference pic of my viewport, i've been working on that model for well over a year now!

if you search for human reference or anatomy you should be able to find some decent sized free reference pics, i can't seem to find the page where i found mine last year but i did find one that might be useful.

*Warning there are human nudes on this site, so it may not be work safe*

Hope thats some help, looks like you're off to a great start.

I did use a reference image, but I think the perspective/lens distortion makes the legs look shorter than they really are.

I haven't spent much time at all on the face, I have only worked on the nose enough to make it stick out and not distort the rest of the face too much.

The body definitely needs a more accurate profile, but as I plan on giving it clothes (maybe a space suit) this isn't crucial.

Coolhand, what modeling software do you use?

yeah distortion is a problem, i had to lengthen the legs a bit on my model because of that you should really shoot these ref pics from as far away as possible with a long lens to minimise it.

If you're going to give it chunky clothing i'd just move on to build that since you're not going to leave the other geometry under there. so you'll just be building the suit and the face/head.

I'm using max for that model btw.
