I read an article some weeks ago (which I could not find again to post a link) about moon rocks on the black market. It reports that after Apollo 11, Dick Nixon gave out small gift moon rocks to many of the worlds nations. Some 200 rocks were given out, only about 40 of which are accounted for today. A retired NASA detective has made it his mission to track down the rest, but it appears that they have been stolen, bought, and traded among the world's elite for the last 40 years and aren't going to be given up easily. The article claimed that the Apollo 11 samples in particular can go for up to $30 million per ounce! After reading about the Everest climb I really wanted to post the article, but I found this one instead http://gizmodo.com/5242736/how-an-intern-stole-nasas-moon-rocks which is just an amazing story if it's true. Wondering if anyone here has heard of this heist before.
-So I did some research and it appears that $30million per ounce is indeed as inflated as it sounds, its more like $2million per ounce...
