Yes it is possible, but differs in what kind of vessel...
1) For AMSO, Ctrl+Alt+Arrow Keys
2) For Shuttle Fleet and Default Atlantis, Ctrl+Arrow Keys
3) The DeltaGlider has similar function keys to the shuttle
Alternatively, you can try this add-on called First Person Experience to most other vessels

I've always used Onboard camera control. It should be on Orbit Hanger somewhere. It's a custom module that opens a control to move around in a VC or whole ship. If you want a ship you can really move around in there's John Marcure's Firefly. It has a whole virtual interior to move around in. You can use "W" and the mouse to through the whole ship.
