Must-Have Freeware Tools

Any good freeware for mac?
Eclipse is a good IDE and they've got PC, Mac, and Linux packages.

Get some plugins for eclipse and you can work in most languages. (I've been using Notepad++ for most of my programing needs recently, but its pc only.)

Hello,

I'd like to add some others to the list but this requires a little organization and I lack of time. Simply, I discovered that one this morning and it will surely help me, if I used until now other software, can be a bit heavier ( XnView, DxtBmp...).

A dds viewer :

http://www.amnoid.de/ddsview/index.html

Be carefull wit the dds viewer : check, as usual, the associated extension's list ( "set files association's icon" before loading any image )

Oh, and in the same moment, Context Viewer, that I had not used since some years and that I rediscovered :

Context Viewer 1.4.1 :

http://www.gratilog.net/xoops/modules/mydownloads/singlefile.php?cid=95&lid=1311

...an explorer extension in the form of a control panel applet
that lets you preview image files and text in the right click menu. It can
also display customized information about images and set hotkeys to enable
or disable the preview along with a few more options.

But i've not find any extension's plugin with Susie for it for dds files.

Susie :

In another way :

ThumbView

http://www.seriema.net/thumbview/index.php?page=download_full

Download the installer ( 195 kb ).

Download DDS support ( 56 kb ).

Run the installer.
Later, dblclick on the : DDS_support.tvx.

Now, one can see ( on WindowsXP SP1, here ) dds files as thumbnails ( miniatures in french ) in each folder .

Basic tools I use for webdev :
FireFox + webdevtoolbar + firebug(and plugins)
Notepad++
WinSCP (files transferts)
Ms VisualSourceSafe (versioning)

And obviously IE for testing, because there is always problems to solve with IE (I admit, less since v8).

Songbird

A free, open-source media player by the creators of Firefox. Easy to use interface and plugins for ipod support. Haven't touched Media Player since getting it. :)

I just recently found this free and easy program called fences. Basically you can create fences for your desktop icons and name them. There are a few more features as well. There is another great feature that I think is worth getting the program just for it. You can double click the desktop and have all icons and fences disappear leaving you with just your background to enjoy. You can also set it up to have only certain fences/icons to disappear. http://www.stardock.com/products/fences/

I haven't seen this great tool I'm using since the end of 90's posted here, so here it is:
FAR Manager (i.e. file and archive manager) - an open source (since 2007) Windows console filesystem tool, strikingly similar to Norton Commander (even more than Total Commander, because of text mode used), with plug-in architecture; can also use Total Commander plug-ins after adding WFX2FAR plug-in. It's meant for people, who after switching from DOS to Windows didn't like the Total/Windows Commander appearance, or like text mode file managers, like Midnight Commander for Linux/Unix. Version 2.0 of FAR has full Unicode support.

vBulletin PM Reader

If your are anything like me, you have heaps of valuable PMs in your Orbiter-Forum PM Inbox/Sent Items. Due to the limited storage capacity available for these messages, I normally download them before deleting the old PMs to make space for new PMs.

I found this little gem that will allow you to view and search those downloaded messages: http://vcldeveloper.com/products/products-freeware/vbulletin-pm-reader/
