My meeting with Batman

Bats in your house are a problem because of droppings. It's like any other wild animal nesting in your house; they can damage the property and cause general filth issues. My uncle dealt with it by sealing the attic with insulating foam after getting all the bats out and cleaning up the mess. The ones in the barn he didn't worry too much about.

If you have a hornets nest in your house and it doesn't bother you, well, you'd be the first person I've heard of who tolerates that!

The problem is that you can't reach the attic of my house anyway. It's sealed. You would have to open the walls or ceiling. And it's not a kind of attic to set foot in. It's too small. It's an old building. I guess animals and insects do live here for many decades (recently I found old honeycombs, which I guess were blown through one of my attic windows by the wind).

I am not afraid of any kind of animal, as long as it's not a polar bear or lion, sitting on the couch in my living room

Hornets are beautiful creatures by the way. I like to watch them when they sit on the attic window of my flat, until I fully open it so they can get out again. It never was an issue. I found out that people who don't tolerate something like that are mostly misinformed/afraid ("hornets can kill you!") or not very kind to animals in general. House damage is a serious issue though. But it's not the general case.

Hm.
Does being bit by a swarm of hornets when i was 4 count as misinformed?
They didn't like me plugging a bottle into their nest.
I know they are harmless in small numbers, but it took another bite at 15 to blow that fear out of the airlock.

I still don't like being in the same room with a wasp, and would swat on sight with extreme overkill.

No. It sounds like you did something in the near of, or with their nest... ;) which happens quite often when children are involved. That's when wasps or bees also become annoyed. Not only hornets.

Even a single wasp sting can kill you, if you're allergic. But that does not mean that those beings are dangerous in general, like some people tend to believe. Especially the European hornets are not more dangerous than wasps.
