My Space-Glider

Lol :)

I'm glad that the seat fit anyway!
Well for the re-entry there will be radiant heaters, standing around the simpit to get a realistic feeling

Very nice!

I like the blue lights. Everyone needs blue lights. It's like a law now or something.

The red lights on the "eyebrow" panel? HUD mode?

Robb

Well, the blue lights are more a gimmick. I'll get those blue light in a form of a wire, so you can embarrassed them around the panels!

The 4 white Buttons on the eyebrow with backlights are my "blind-Buttons"
So I will connect the first button with the ENTER Key in order to get a execution Button. The other ones will be "most-used-buttons". In order to have all important buttons in reach! The HUD Buttons are below!
A second 4-button-panel will follow on the other side of the eyebrow.

My brain can be weird somtimes. When I first saw the thread title, I read it as "MySpace Glider".

Today I decided to assemble the Joystick at the right side where the first panel is. And not in the middle like in the space shuttle.

It's because of more comfort when sitting and it looks better!

Kilo should contact myspace and ask them if they wish to sponsor his simpit.
While we are at it, do you plan a canopy or any further enclosing at all?

@TSPenguin

Yes I will! There will be a canopy in order to get some buttons overhead.
And then I plan to enclose everything to the sides. That will be the best way to fool your brain, sitting in a real cockpit and not in the basement :P

Well, I try to contact Myspace, but I'm afraid they'll send me stickers and banners for my simpit

"Your simulation will resume in 30 seconds. In the mean time, please enjoy this advertisement from our sponsor."

I think I'll eventually add an overhead panel too. If for nothing else, just to get those three "chicky" switches. (Firefly reference. Reply if you know what I'm talking about :D )

Robb

Today I built in the Joystick and the throttle.
The throttle from the joystick is very very great, but not when you expand it. It looks not very nice, so I have to do a little bit more for it.

Here some new pics in the dark

Well, there will be more panel lights.
Here's a pic how I plan the canopy

@Robb

Yeah I think so...
But now the space is almost to the limit. Don't know where I could place it.
Well, the worst case would be to remove the left panel. Hm..
I will try it first with the throttle of the stick.

Well, maybe just something other than that little paddle thing. Going to full power "pedal to the metal" burn with a little paddle seems kind of ... uh, silly? No offense.

Robb

Out of curiousity, why did you mount the throttle up so high, rather than to the side where it can be easily reached?

@Hielor

Well, because of the free space in my simpit.
I don't want to mount it on the left side where the knees are. And above are the panels, so I don't know where to mount it.
Well, I'll try a little fly that way. It's only a compromise solution that time.

But I plan with a T handle throttle...

Maybe it doesn't looks like, but the throttle is very easy to reach. But you're right.. it's more futuristic than realistic.

Hey guys...
Today I started to build the cockpit roof...
well, it was a really difficult work because of the strange shape of the cockpit.
But, first it's important for me that the cockpit works in order to fool the brain your sitting in a real one.
So, the roof isn't really finished yet..

the edges where the light is shining, will be "fill" with a orange backlight, so the cockpit will be illuminate from the edges of the roof!

The foldable roof to get in.

It's looking quite nice!

I hear you on the difficulties in cutting certain shapes. I had a few compound angle pieces on my sim, which took me a while to get right. But you have a lot more! I can only imagine how frustrating it might be. But in the end, your design makes it worth it.

Thanks!!
Yes you're right.. it's frustrating!!
There are so much holes and much space between the woodparts at the sides.
The best way to build the sides would be to use fiberglass, but... I said it would be a low-cost project :)
The next thing is that I never planed to build a canopy, so I have to improve. But I'm sure, in the end there will be a really good simpit :)
BTW, just now it's a great feeling to sit in the simpit!

Next steps:
- Overhead panel
- Some decals and gimmicks like map case for the naked walls
- closing the right side and build in a "door" on the left side. (Open door and roof to get in)
- Mount the cockpit lights under the roof

:censored:, I want to fly at last :(

I forgot to ask. where did you get the square switches on your glareshield? How big are they? Do you have a manufacturer/part number?
