Nasa's lander samples Mars water

If and when the lander does find conclusive evidence of life on Mars I could see NASA and "the powers that be" trying to figure out how to release the information without sparking riots or "civil unrest" among various religious groups -- not just in the USA, but worldwide. Many religions are founded on the ironclad belief that "Earth is the only planet that contains life in the Universe," and a discovery to the contrary would cause quite an uproar. Most religious fundamentalists would probably just deny the evidence, but you always have some fraction who react violently to any evidence that contradicts their beliefs.

Yes, Mars would really become a god of war

According to recent reports it is stated that the soil is too toxic for life to currently exist. Is the mars lander set up to find evidence of life that could have existed? eg microscopic fossils?
