I have installed D3D9 Client and am running Orbiter 2016 NG. On NASSP and in Orbiter scenarios in general, I get none of the microtextures on the moon. all other features of D3D9 seem to be working correctly. I have microtextures enabled in the advance window for video settings all I get on landing Eagle on the moon when close to the surface is a featureless setting. I do get dust and some minor color changes but no real textures. Makes it very hard to land visually. Any Ideas?

You need to get the microtexture (.dds) files, too:
Mars:
- Textures\D3D9Mars_A.dds
- Textures\D3D9Mars_B.dds
Moon:
- Textures\D3D9Moon_A.dds
- Textures\D3D9Moon_B.dds
- Textures\D3D9Moon_C.dds
- Textures\D3D9Moon_C2.dds

I have to take a look where you get them, as I don't like to attach a 23MB ZIP.
...please stand by while I try to get you an URL.

...doh!
Sure enough it is available at the D3D9Client page (under "MicroTexture Pack").

(direct link to ZIP)

I had previously downloaded the microtexture files. I reloaded them a second time. when I unzip them it puts a microtexture folder in my Orbiter directory with 2 subfolders, 1 labeld textures which contains 4 or 5 small pictures of lunar and martian surface and a second folder labeled config with some lines of code for the moon, mars, and some other bodies but I still get no microtextures on any scenarios. any idea what I am missing. thsnks for your previous reply!

You unzip them at one level deep too much.
Config and Textures folder are 2 standard Orbiter folder.
Get rid of that microtexture folder.
