Pilots may discuss anything related to OFSS missions here!

For anyone wanting to tune in, I'll be flying Mission 7 around 18:00 EDT (22:00 UTC) on Thursday September 10, 2009. For live updates, I'll be using the Orbiter IRC.

Mission 7 is complete! I'll be posting the scenario file and CRAP LOADS of screenshots tomorrow (seriously, I took I think 110, but I won't post that many :P). It was a great flight, all objectives achieved, my best flight I think I've ever done!

Good job mate!

Mission 8 is underway, I've already got the MCT installed and undertaking an EVA.

Refer to my blog updates for mission status. :) I'll be home tomorrow.

UPDATE:

OFSS Mission 8 is complete! Was a real fun one! :)

Don't forget to post your post-flight scenario.

Indeed, I need that scenario by tonight Kyle.

Just two questions:

- What DGIV settings should I use? Or is it up to me?
- Where do I put the cargo?

It's all up to you commander.

I'll be flying the Soyuz re-supply flight on the 26th (Mission 9), and I need to know:

Where can I find the OFSS addon?
What is the azimuth for the station from Baikonur?

Thanks. I will give IRC updates, and make a picture album.

I assume you mean the OFSS package when you say the OFSS "addon". The OFSS packages are posted where they always are. I upload them to OH and post links to the latest package in the OFSS forum, thread titled "OFSS Mission Packages". Your mission pack has not been released yet as it requires the previous mission to be completed first. Also, you will be launching from Wideawake International, not Baikonur. The details of your lanuch will be included in your mission pack documentation. Right now there is nothing for you to do but wait until your mission pack is released.

OK - thankyou very much! (I've just realised; its mission 10).

I'm also flying on mission 10, bringing down an HL20. Since this mission is going to use multiple pilots, how are we gonna do it? Do I wait for george to send up the Soyuz and post his mission, then fly down my ship, or do I just go ahead and reenter and then send you the scenario so that you can sort it out yourself?

That's a good question. Because of limited time I'd say go ahead and fly it and post your scenario. If you want to coordinate it with George so you know what day he can fly his mission and post the scenario after he's docked to the station, then you and woo482 could reenter the HL-20s using that scenario. Once safely landed you guys would post your scenario so George could use it to finish his mission. It's a lot to work out and it all depends on everyone's schedule this week I suppose.

Either way is fine, as long as the finished scenario from all 3 pilots can be posted by the 28th.

Did the Soyuz docking adapter magically appear on the station between missions 9 and 10?

I guess the crew built it themselves when nobody was watching...

EDIT: And another question: Why are we using Progress? Admittedly, it's a nicer ship to fly, with UMMU support and everything, but the whole point was to provide a replacement escape method for the crew. Progress doesn't have reentry capability.

I had all kinds of trouble getting it into the cargo bay of the last mission with mct, so I flew it up myself or if you like it was magically built in space. :)

More over I've been having some problems with my video card and haven't been able to do enough testing. I never fly progress so I totally had no idea it couldn't reenter.. are you sure? If so, then it will stay on station I suppose... for now at least.

For a crew escape vehicle we're going to have a DG4 docked at the station all the time starting next month I believe. This Soyuz/Progress mission was just to get some reentry pilots up to the station to bring down the HL-20s.

Yeah, the Progress just gets dumped into the atmosphere, it doesn't have reentry capability.

It is nicer than the Soyuz, though, it actually has a VC and some other neat gimmicks, the Soyuz is benign enough to almost be a SC3 vessel.

hehe well I better change the documentation to leave progress on station. :)

So, then, George, woo, do y'all have time to do this right? Or should we all just kinda fly it on our own? I'm pretty much open the whole way through, but that still doesn't give us much time till the 28th (my birthday!!)
