OFSS Project Discussions

I'll try and get another arm up soon, just not sure what mission I should send it up on

i don't know how big the arm would be in the payload bay, but would an xr 2 do the trick?.

combine the mission with sending an extra arm up to the station with the relocating of the existing arm so that it can cover the entire station. that way future missions can be made safer for the astronauts so they don't have to go EVA to place the module.

Just for grins I played around with the location of the RMS-1.
If it gets moved to the center of the MCT (and without changing the size) the 'elbow' nearly reaches all the way to the P3P4, but it looks fine. Still have to have the platform parked, because it moves up and down, not sode to sode (just like it does now). I'm guessing it has to do with the way the core ship it attached to is oriented?

It's reach will go past the PMA-1, and in the other direction you've got to bend the elbow to reach over the solar array from MIR2, if the arm is on the centerline you can get between the panels, but the radiator is really close. With PMA-1 where it is, you'd still need to hand-off cargo (or whatever) to the stations RMS for final placement.

I've seen the dockable arms on Mustard's site, but the URMS is pretty darned easy to use. Whatever we do, it's all good.:thumbup:

I would have taken screen shots, but the wife had me off doing something before I could think about it.

Zatnikitelman has just told me that he is unable to fly the next mission, assuming no one has a problem with me doing so I'll try and fly it tonight so we can continue with the next mission, though it could be delayed slightly
edit:
I'll also take up a second URMS if everyone thinks it's worth it

Are there any free missions for any of the XR-series, or the DG-IV left? If so, I'd probably be interested in flying it.

A second URMS is probably worth doing. How much more construction is there to do on the "other side" of the station? Perhaps locating it where the original arm was??? Just thinking (and typing) out loud...

none for now, though woo482 is thinking up missions passed the one's that were already planned.

there isn't any free DG-IV / XR flights free at the moment, though I am thinking of planning some.

The Mir-2 core side ? if so, I'm not sure, though I dont think there is much left to do over there.

Even if there was, a URMS equipped XR-5 could handle it with no problems...

The last time I saw OFSS was back in July, when I made the Pack for mission 5,
so if there are any missions for current tech vehicles like Shuttle, ATV, Progress,
Soyuz or CTV available I would love it to fly one of them.

I'm sure I can find a mission for you that uses current tech vehicles :thumbup:

i tried my hand at mission 30, it seems the orbit of the core module is out of whack (might be something i did, i dunno) it had an apoapsis of 650 and a periapsis of 159 (that's only 9 km short of touching the atmosphere)

i quit the scenario after main tank seperation.

I'll check it on my install, though it shouldn't of changed...
edit:
It's showing PeA: 391.4 km and ApA:424.2 km here, if anything a little high

must be a bug in my system, i'll try it again later.
perhaps because i didn't use a clean install of orbiter... i just copied my existing installation and installed all the addons i didn't already have.

Station Arm

woo482: I tried this Station Arm. Is perfect. It has on the end docking port in code, so we can attach it to any hidden dock in tex1-tex4 (I thing there are 3 places on each module)
No need new download. It is in package we have installed. Only to create this config file for compatibility with xr5 payload bay

file Armdock.cfg in folder config/vessels
Code:
ClassName = Spacecraft3
Module = Spacecraft3
Mass = 500
EnableFocus = true
XRPayloadEnabled = true
Description = Station Arm
Dimensions = 1.5 1.5 16
AttachmentPointIndex = 0
GroundDeploymentAdjustment = 0 1 0
BEGIN_ATTACHMENT
P 0 0 0  0 1 0  0 0 1  XRCARGO
END_ATTACHMENT

and in scenario file with XR5
Code:
.....

Revolpathon's flight is now on Orbit-Hangar, remember to get screen shots and a mission report :thumbup: you can find it in the normal place ([ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=4469"]Here[/ame])

Where can I find a list of all the addons needed to fly this? I suspect I have them all anyway, but would just like to make sure.

There is a list of required addons in the .pdf included in the package :thumbup: if you really needed it I could probably PM you a plain text version.

Thanks, didn't know that. I'll download it now :tiphat:

EDIT: Eh, looks like I've got a loot of downloading to do :thumbup:
