Installation Orbiter 2016 is crashing on launch.

Hey folks. I've been away from Orbiter for several years. I saw the new 2016 release and wanted to come back. However Orbiter is crashing when I select launch. I've not installed anything other than Orbiter 2016 and set my video configuration in the video tab. I've tried starting several scenarios but it always crashes. It gives me an "appcrash" error and something else about DDraw.dll

Windows 7 64bit
core i7 4790k 4@4Ghz
GTX 970 4GB
16 GB Ram

I'd appreciate any help. Earlier I tried first installing Orbiter but adding in the D3D9 graphics extension but was getting crashes as well. So I figured I start over with just a clean install of just Orbiter. Once again all it does is crash while it tries to load. Thank you.
 
Crash to desktop or just lock up?
Can you post the Orbiter log?
 
My apologies. My download got corrupted and it wasn't even a full download. I was missing about a gig.:blush:

I was linked to "How to ask for help". I did post my specs and a detailed description. However I did forget the log but that's something I had forgotten about. I've been away from Orbiter for six years. I personally find Orbiter forum to be very confusing and overwhelming. I did spend up to five minutes looking for similar issues and the right thread to ask my question. If I'm not in the right forum just let me know and lead me in the right direction.
 
You're pretty much in the right place. Is it still giving you a problem??

We're here to help you, not shout at you for missing bits out, I'm sorry if you got the wrong impression from my post. I made that article because I found myself repeating the same questions a lot when people needed assistance.
 
My installation crashes too, but only with the Arrow Freighter.

Dansteph's addons haven't been updated for Orbiter 2016 yet. Your Orbiter.log shows you that the DLLs for UMMU and UCGO were built against the 2010-P1 API (100830), which can cause issues under different versions of Orbiter. The only solution for this is to wait while those addons are rebuilt against the new API.
 
Yes it is working now, thank you PhantomCruiser and Xyon. I do want to follow the forum's guidelines . I'm sorry if I was being sensitive. I just came from another forum that had become fairly abusive and mean spirited. So I was feeling kind of raw anyway and then I felt that I was being overly moderated or dismissed. I know that's not the case and that you all have a difficult chore reigning all of this stuff in and keeping things organized. I will remember the log from now on and do my best to be in the right place with the right info. No worries.

Again it is working and this is the first time ever that I've run and seen Orbiter with the dx9 graphics plugin. The additional effects are sometimes downright beautiful, especially from altitude, and I'm glad to see they added a water shader. That and the new terrain elevation which adds even more depth and immersion is just awesome. Too bad I'm still not any good at it.:) I desperately want to install Dan Steph's stuff but I guess I need to wait. Skorp seems to indicate that he got Orbiter sound working though. I might backup my game and see about trying to get that working. Thanks all.
 
Yes, sound works fine, even though it has not been adapted to the 2016 version yet. DGIV seems to be working too.

EDIT: Errrm ... no. Some DG IV Missions start in a CTD. Oh well, gotta wait then :)
