After I click JUMP on, Orbiter starts loading and I get a CTD. Looking in the log reveals this:

Code:
---------------------------------------------------------------
>>> ERROR: While initialising solar system OGalaxySystems/!359.9h0.1g16.5h/!359.9h0.1g16.5hSystem:
>>> File not found: .\Config\OGalaxySystems/!359.9h0.1g16.5h/!359.9h0.1g16.5hSystem.cfg
>>> [Orbiter::CreateRenderWindow | .\Orbiter.cpp | 727]
---------------------------------------------------------------
>>> TERMINATING <<<

@Columbia42: Thanks a lot, suspicion confirmed. My GPU is not the only one where the GPU generation lacks noise. If Artlav can get to the bottom of this, the planets will look a lot nicer...

Now for the second suspicion: could you post another screenshot with an Ice planet or a Gas Giant? that'll be the last one I ask for, I promise :)

Oh yes, from your above post I gather that Orbiter Galaxy crashed the D3D9 client? not so funny, but not entirely unexpected... Will have to see what can be done about that.

After I click JUMP on, Orbiter starts loading and I get a CTD. Looking in the log reveals this:

The config file lacking?? no Idea what's going on there, we never had that problem before. This isn't exactly a support thread, I guess I'll open that one again shortly. Currently I have no Idea what could be the reason for a lacking config file. You have waited for texture export to finish, I presume?
edit: I just decided to pick the project up again and revived the support thread. Please take bug reports over there. The poll will stay open, as additional data never hurt anyone...

Yes I wait for the texture export to finish, then I close the map window and click on Jmp. Orbiter closes, opens again and starts loading, and then CTD.

I'll get you over to the above mentioned support thread, and we'll try to figure it out. Not right now, though, I'm running out of time. Will have to wait until in a few hours.

I just installed it for the first time and it works nice. However I am not interested in interstellar travel, so I just use it to generate systems. I tried to find a good habitable planet with moon, but I it is a bit hard with the map.
It would be nice to be able to browse through the systems. Maybe just some arrows on the system information screen which allow looking at the next/previous system.

Hmmm... should be doable, but I doubt that it's much more convenient.

When looking for habitable planets, set the filters to G or K V suns, that's the ones most likely to contain habitable planets. Since you see a preview of the system when hovering the mousecursor over the star, that should be faster than clicking through hundreds of systems...

Plus, there's of course always the possibility to save a system to a folder (in the standalone) and then modify it manually if you only want some minor modifications...

Edit: there, found you one. Pretty interesting twins, two habitable terrestrial of of almost identical mass orbiting each other. Pretty rare configuration, took a full 2 minutes to find... ;)

!03d0.1h151.4c, in 5/-798/2.

Further edit: Oh wait... that one won't be there in your version, since the generation routines have undergone optimisation in my version. Never mind, new patch will be out somewhen next week, you'll find it there.

I'm too time pressured to play around.
I'm a Frontier guy so otherwise I would.

[EDIT] One thing that I could point out is that I believe people generally don't like that ALPHA thing. I understand that it's still in development, but that's what will keep people away.
I myself were somehow disgusted when I asked somebody to test something for me (in two different communities), that I couldn't test myself, so it was hell of a showstopper, and these guys told me that they will simply wait for the final version. That's not how it works, damn it.

I probably should have added the option "too damn busy with developing my own add-ons" to the poll... :lol:

To add my own thought to this thread: I love the idea of interstellar spaceflight in orbiter. I believe orbiter galaxy is the first step to get full integration into orbiter. The only reason I haven't used orbiter galaxy much is because I still have problems with the texture generator. When I warp to sone planets it looks like a black hole with an atmosphere. How am I supposed to build a base on a black hole type planet?!

Note: I am willing to help test the texture generator if needed.

Texture generation has gone through heavy fixing, I think the next release should be pretty reliable, but testing it on different machines will still be a major priority. I'm currently hunting for alternative color schemes to have more variety in the planets, takes a bit longer than expected. Plus I hit a bump with the interface overhaul because of an irrlicht bug with table clipping. But I think I should make it to a new release somewhen this month...

OOH OOH!!! why not put random bases around. kinda like a scavenger hunt
