Installation Orbiter Installer: What does "remove" actually do?

I want to install a second instance of Orbiter but noticed that if I call up the installer it detects the previous installation and only gives the options to repair or remove.

I'm a bit in worry about my existing install as it has quite a few Add-Ons and is finally working without CTDs. How can I install a second Orbiter without affecting my existing one?

Just download the zip version and extract to a separate folder. Easy peasy.

Microsoft Software Installer (MSI) packages generally give the option to repair, change or remove a given installation. Of course it depends on the package configuration, but normally the repair/remove system is only affecting the files installed by the package itself. Additional files and directories should be kept by the installer on remove.

That said, it is always a good idea to NOT trust MSI packages, because the mechanism behind is quite flexible and complicated. It is really easy to get a package that accidentally destroys data on repair/change/remove and/or upgrade. IMHO, xcopy-deployment (ZIP-archive) is the most "secure" way to install Orbiter.

I guess I'll check the MSI package with ORCA again...
