Alright, in the news today; Orbiter Radio MFD is working, in beta stage. I need some people to make sure it works on foreign hardware and different architecture / windows version, etc.

Anyone want to test it?

Right here.

(Please remember to activate the module in Launchpad)

For the purposes of not giving myself a headache this morning, I have not implemented volume control (Which would be implemented as an ability to turn it down from default max, limited by master, and then back up).

If volume control is notably lacking then I'll implemented, if not, then I won't bother, and I'll take those buttons out. Opinions!

Tested on an Asus EeePC 900HD, Windows XP SP3, on wireless internet connection, 54 Mbps.

Worked fine. Continues to work if you change vessel focus, or even if you change the display to another MFD.

Cool.

I put a fix up for a bug noted in IRC, such that Orbiter continued to play the music when returning to launchpad under certain behaviour. This fix should also cause the music to die more gracefully when closing Orbiter while playing.

A known bug, btw, is that if you jump into another vessel, that vessel's radio MFD will spawn another playback thread; Fix for that is a WIP.

MFD submitted to OH. Since it's the first thing I've released, I'll have to wait for Vash to accept it before it shows up.

Edit: There's another bug with it, noted just a few minutes ago; it can't handle a stream source disconnect while playing, such as a DJ change - orbiter CTDs. I'm working on a fix for this.

And probably a good time to remind everyone of my 2 hour slot on orbiterradio from 22:00 BST to 00:00 Friday evening.

This Friday will feature two hours of space news, random chat, music and quiz questions so I hope you can listen in!

I'm open to ideas and suggestions for the format of the show as well as to space news and quiz questions.

I was thinking we could all get together at some point in the near future and do a special on the Shuttle before they're retired, though I've given little thought to the format of such a show.

Good idea, it would be fun to have something covering the following:

History of the shuttle
highs and lows
cancelled missions
proposed upgrades
each persons favourite missions

and so on. Could pack a lot into a show.

For a little bit of real-time update, we've got the radio station going! Pants Free Radio is on right now - you can access it through http://orbiterradio.thruhere.net/
Pop in and listen to the comedy and the ranting!
Warning - some of the music (and some of the commentary) may be NSFW.

GRS.R will be back again today, 2-4 pm GMT, 4-6 pm CEST, so I hope that some of you will be there to listen in :)!

To follow up on the program announcements, I'm going on at 20:00 BST today with the usual genre hopping, Douglas Adams appreciation, and hopefully a dose of the ridiculous. Also, remember to check out what we're doing over at the #orbiterradio channel (http://xcc.rpgee.com/chat/)

Tuned in today over my lunch break. Good stuff! Loved the outro to the 2-4 GMT show. Fit and timed perfectly with my launch from a Prelude base to lunar orbit.

Owing to an interesting error in temporal calculations on his part, insanity's show has finished, just over an hour before it was due to start.

Such an exemplary way to fail, mate. ;)

Something which has been mentioned on and off in IRC for a few days now, and an idea which has been bouncing around my drug addled brain for about a month on and off;

I'm contemplating hosting a special show at some point in the near future in honour of the retiring shuttles. In fact, three shows, one for Atlantis, soonish, one for Discovery after STS-133 and of course one for Endeavour after STS-134, which will also be a tribute show for the entire shuttle fleet.

What I want for this show is as many DJs as possible together at once, having a natter and a good old chat about the good old days of the Shuttle, and the slightly less good days too, with a bit of music and maybe a quiz question or two thrown in somewhere along the way.

So, what I want firstly, is a list of DJs, and a more ordered format for the show so that it doesn't devolve into the silly 12+ hour shows we normally wind up doing whenever we get together and do chat radio. Seriously, my spleen can't handle the pressure of endurance chat radio at the moment.

I'm something of shuttle hugger and can recall watching STS-1, 51-L and coming home to find out about 107. I'd certainly like to be there with my memories of the programme.

Thanks for listening!

Alrighty, actually thinking a little clearer now even if MFRS don't consider me lucid enough to work >.>

In terms of format, I consider the shuttle show to be a lighthearted chat-centered show based, unsurprisingly, around the space shuttles and their missions, past and present. Discussions of missions we've watched, ones we remember, ones we regret missing, ones we just plain regret, the future of the Orbiters themselves, the last two STS missions, the possibility of STS-135, and the future of NASA and spaceflight in general, both manned and unmanned - for example. By no means is that a comprehensive list.

Scatter it with music here and there to break up the show a little, whack in a start time and date, and a tentative end time and date, throw in a couple of broadcasters, and we have a show. I've already registered some interest in this from a few DJs, but really, the more the merrier.

Since I set aside Tuesdays in the schedule as Talk Radio night and it didn't really happen, I'm going to go ahead and suggest a timeslot on June 1st, at around 19:00 UTC. I realise this may not be late enough for some and too late for others, but timezones are a pain at the best of times. I figure the show can be run long enough to get everyone involved as wants to be.
