I'll be playing some rock music and maybe talking/ranting a bit.

Also I'm active on both #orbiterradio and #orbiter-forum IRC channels however I prefer communicating by first one.

Judging by the dates, am I to assume Orbiter-Radio is no more? The link doesn't work for me.

Its probably the most accessible form of info re: space missions etc, given that I don't have much in the way of reading time outside of work stuff.

Rummaging around my various storage media revealed some old radio station thing I used to operate, which filled me with nostalgia. I mean, it's only been... something like seven years? Sheesh.

High time someone stepped in to replace the autoDJ bot who's been stalwartly filling the "airwaves" for all that time!

Admittedly, my free time hasn't changed all that much - if anything, I've got a little less than I used to have before the pandemic - but I'd like to start out with a semi-regular show and see how things go.

The answer, as usual, is VLC - VLC can play anything!


The stream address is in the first post, but you can hit this link to get an M3U playlist you can feed into a music player. I mentioned VLC because it plays just about anything, but you can open it in a wide range of music players (even windows media player, I think).

Totally failing at getting VLC to play autobot as a test. It just does nothing when I open the file to VLC. Defaults to 'Groove music' whatever tf that is which will actually open it, but not play.

Any ideas from the people who actually know what they're doing with a computer?

I know, it's taking me forever to set up a show, but I'm trying to figure out what kind of show to put together. Something a little less doom and gloom than current affairs, but... yeah. My free time is quite limited!

I think the autodj stream should work now. I did have to move the mountpoint, which probably breaks the old OR MFD I made.

Does the stream play music via the auto-DJ? When I tried to connect to http://radio.orbiter-radio.co.uk:8000/orbiter-radio.m3u just now using either VLC or Winamp, it errors out.

OK - test results - great success. The radio itself works. I have some homework to do on format and phone-in capacity, but it's gonna work just fine I think.

I will be putting out the first "proper" Trainwreck Radio show tonight at 1900 UTC. It'll just be a straight radio show for now, as I've still not figured out the call-in bits properly yet. But I'll be doing my usual catastrophic combination of crappy music and crappier conversation.
